Didn't know, McG, that you are so interested in cycling!
Why didn't you join one of the threads about the Tour, when it (they) actually was (were) running?
(Is Amaury Sport Organisation [A.S.O.] really US-based? )
Sooner or later, and probably sooner, Lance Armstrong will retire and someone else, probably not American will win. This kind of braggadocio is typical of many sports fans but I personally think it is in very poor taste.
My brother was an avid cyclist and got me involved.
I just wanted to bring the political aspects of the tour to this forum.

Which are exactly which?
(I mean, I've followed the Tour online, by tv and other media. I really can't re-call any 'normal' political relations - or are you referring to drugs?)
No, this picture made me think of an article i read a while back about the french perspective of Armstrong. The guy is a machine on a bike and after 6 in a row, you'd think they would have come to like him. This picture made me feel happy.
Actually, that's not only the French view: when you look at other media, covering reactions from other countries, you'll find similar.
Similar reactions, btw, are to be found worldwide re F 1, where Michael Schumacher dominates this sport since six years as well.
Just had a qick review of some French papers:
nearly all said like Le Monde did it again today:
Quote:On ne peut que saluer les performances de l'Amérique d'Armstrong.
... or at least very similar.
Yes, I have heard of Schumacher. The Williams will kill Schumacher.
This would lead to a civil war in Germany:
THE German driver killed by
a German racing car
Indeed. Isn't Schumacher signing with Renault? Or did that fall through?
Not that this is here nor there in regard to the US domination of the Tour de France.

"One can only salute the performances of
Armstrong's America"???
I have trouble believing that
Le Monde said
that.
The younger one? Yes, he already did.
You know, btw, who was the most successful team in the Tour
Quote:1 T-MOBILE TEAM TMO in 248h 58' 43"
2 US POSTAL - BERRY FLOOR USP at 02' 42"
3 TEAM CSC CSC at 10' 33"
4 ILLES BALEARS - B. SANTANDER IBB at 52' 26"
5 QUICK STEP - DAVITAMON QSD at 57' 33"
6 PHONAK HEARING SYSTEMS PHO at 57' 42"
7 RABOBANK RAB at 1h 26' 24"
8 CREDIT AGRICOLE C.A at 1h 30' 35"
9 BRIOCHES LA BOULANGERE BLB at 1h 32' 12"
10 EUSKALTEL - EUSKADI EUS at 1h 47' 46"
Enough international intrigue! You'll ruin my reputation as a nationalistic right-winged insular republican!
US Rules!
... of the American Armstrong, mon cher ami de Chicago.

Then wouldn't it be: "On ne peut que saluer les performances de l'
Americain Armstrong"?
