Emotional Grammar

Today, I saw a semicolon,
interspersed between my question,
and your pause.
Was this a separation
of an independent clause
that differed from mine?
Strong comma indeed,
dividing us in thought,
but at least it wasn't
a full stop, with it's sad echo
of finality. It's just a pause,
long and dreary
though it might be,
it carries with it the hope
of continuance.

I loved it, Cav. Language-play with meaning and depth is something rare-- this has it.

Thank you drom. I wanted to expand on this, but I just said to myself "It's enough," and I'm glad I did that.

I think that it was wise to listen to your intuition; it ends on a sort of haunting half-expectancy: will the pause end, or not? If anything more were written, we don't decide; that we do means that we are engaged until the end.
