I love em. I especially like the black or navy backgrounds with all kinds chochkies like parrots and pineapples and bananas in the print. I got a neat black Hawaiian shirt that , like sneakers, needs to be toned down a bit (maybe several washings which my wife is dead set against cause she likes me looking all gay and ****, and the newer nd more ironed the shirt, the gayer the me(I think thats what she means)
Anybody else think Hawaiian shirts are a symbol of our decadent evil society?

i dislike any shirt that isn't 100% cotton, and i've never yet encountered a 100% cotton Hawaiian shirt, if i did i might give it a try

@djjd62,
the linen ones are just as good as cotton and they really relax on you. Yeh, the mixed fabric (cotton acrylic are waaay too hot on and I wind up getting smelly after a nite of salsa dancing)

@farmerman,
love everything in the tiki-tiki world

shirts, boogie boards, tiki torches and bars

all of it

I love it

I've managed to sneak a few Hawaiian shirts into Set's wardrobe Very Happy they're an easier sell than old-man cardigans.

I grab little guys like these whenever I find them at thriftshops.

@farmerman,
Iron? I haven't ironed since I've been here in Abq. I do wear cotton and linen and sometimes silk, and not very often mixed fabric items. The linen I just wear around the house or to the mail box as people are so disapproving of serious wrinkles, which I take as adding character to an outfit. My husband cowrote some scripts with a director writer who showed up almost anywhere with a wrinkled shirt. Interesting man, had studied architecture and theater, was opinionated in an enjoyable way. I got used to him showing up with those shirts, though I still did a lot of ironing, back in the day myself. Now I take stuff out of the dryer fast and whap them around until close enough to unwrinkled, or air dry them in the first place, pulling them taut.

Don't wear much hawaiian, but I've a tacky 100% cotton hawaiian tee, goodwill of course, never been to the islands. On liking hawaiian shirts, sure, if they're pretty like the one you showed. Er, I also like faded stuff, especially if it's been faded by long time wearing by me. I call that patina.

Yuh easterners are soooo formal.

I understand, though, a woman who is long time involved with textiles not been keen on unironed hawaiian shirts..

I like the simple prints. This one looks exactly like one that I've got:

@InfraBlue,
Thats a cool design. I likes the ones with really dark ground colors and light designs. It seems Im not an only one who likes these things.

@farmerman,
I love them too. Over a period of time...and especially since coming to So Fl as a retiree, I've gotten completely casual. I like the designs of Tommy Bahama Hawaiian/tropical shirts. I wait for my favorite ones to go on sale. I own 3 of them now. Generally they stand up better and look nice longer than cheaper brands.

This is probably just me but those wild ones I migrated away from once I owned just one. I got tired of it ...quickly. However, I still will wear the wild one now and again...similar to the one you show, is in my closet.

Also, I like the silk and/or silk-linen ones, but I wash it on delicate cycle and low heat..hang it half-dry..and then let it air dry the rest.I turn it isnide out when I ash it and partially dry it...but hang it right-side up wehn on hanger. Less wear on the brighter colors.

Let's see if it shows this link to a cool Tommy Bahama shirt (black background):

@farmerman,
Silk isn't like you think...it's not shiny and basically looks like cotton...wouldn't be detectable or flashy.

@farmerman,
Cooler is right. With weather here being so sticky here almost 9 months of the year..it's the only way to fly. I've gotten 100% silk or 75% silk and 25% linen blends.
Also silk breathes..and does silk-linen..so you don't get that pitty smell. I have tons of hot flashes so this all about comfort.

Check this one out. They call them 'camp shirts'. this one is one of their best: the one has 4 colors options (cream-sickle peachy one is OK) and the best is the black one:

BTW, if the price makes you gasp, go to Macy's and watch their sales and speak to sales people there to find out when they run their specials. In October it's often time to clear their inventory. I got mine for 35-40% off and took it out of the stratosphere.

@Ragman,
Interesting in that I have 3 diff Tommy Bahama cotton 1/4 length zipper front sweat shirts. With a nice tee underneath, they are comfy in a range between 20 degrees to 75 degrees. (Kinda perfect for Fall walking around the fields).

Does Bahama write his name on the back collar of the shirt?(They do it on their sweaters and sweat shirts) The only thing I hate is that kind of bullshit advertising for which Im supposed to pay more money.

@farmerman,
No different from all the shirts I own, there's a label on back collar of all my Tommy Bahama shirts but none anywhere else nor any initials buried in the design.

@Ragman,
got one, a Tommy shirt dark indigo background and with plant life . Its silk, It was on sale for 69 bucks and it fit great. Ill keep it for next summer. Meanwhile, Ill keep my eyes open for other deals .
I hear that, as we age, our need for color increases.
