@farmerman,
I just put my silk stuff in the washing machine, but don't trust me. Wait for others who are probably smarter about it.
edit - I wash my stuff as "delicate" and with hot and cold rinses, no matter what the clothes are. No thinking involved..

@farmerman,
I wash silk all the time. Cold water, delicate setting. I'd probably throw an old colourfast towel in with them the first time at least.

@farmerman,
Psst it's Tommy Bahama (not Anthony). Tony is the Italian cheap knock-off.

@ehBeth,
my wife agrees with ehbeth. "Silks arent friendly with hot water" she said. (Im merely checking to see hether she knew her stuff. (She is a fibre artist but mostly Luba Kretchky style shawls and wool silk blend hioptser stuff.

Rags-I know. Anyone who has only one way to refer to a name is missing the fun of it all.

Like Sheikh Yabouti say.

@farmerman,
I suppose you folks are right. I don't have that much silk and it looks and feels the same as it used to, but I could have guessed it needed more coddling as I probably knew that from days of yore. I'm sort of a gnarly dresser anyway, and separated water use is a present concern in my spot of sand, not to make excuses.

Never mind me, I used to know a couple, the guy of which collected antique japanese kimonos. Wish I'd taken photos..

@djjd62,
100% cotton Hawaiian shirts are common. One of my favorite Hawaiian shirt (100% cotton) is the one I bought at Liberty House at Ala Moana Shopping Center several decades ago. Liberty House is no longer there. I take that shirt with me when we visit Hawaii. The print is on the inside, so the art is muted on the outside.

@InfraBlue,
One of my shirt is inside out from yours. I like the muted art work.

@farmerman,
Good question on ties. I vaguely remember seeing ties/bow ties, but how they'll combine with the shirt, I don't know.

@ossobuco,
I actually like linen or cotton better than silk, its cool on a hot day and doesnt feel slippery wet like silk .
I dont think they make linen hawaiian shirts. Ive seen the cotton ones at the malls

Thomas Bahama int the only maker, but right now, it seems that hes undercutting everyone else. His shiorts used to be catalog listed for like 135 bucks but the going rate (at the Polo/ Ralphy outlets) is half of that.

@ossobuco,
Off on my own riff re a guy who knew silk -

He also collected Stickly furniture; his girlfriend, a great pal of mine who I still care about as friend, but we haven't emailed in a while - first met from school in our medium age - we all got along, back then.

Besides the esoteric stuff, he was or still is quite a photographer, used to roam downtown LA in the wee hours and dark alleys and photo, his stuff on several album covers. I have one of his prints.

I hesitate to look him up - we are all so old now.
