There are ten people in a house. Everybody wants to make a hand shake with only people shorter than himself. Assume everybody is different in height. How many hand shakes are made?

45 I believe is off. Ten people, each shaking hands with the people shorter then themselves...

9+8+7+6+5+4+3+2 = 44

First person shakes hands with 9 unique persons, the second with eight... the last has no unique handshakes to make.

Just woke up, so as before, I may be out of it.

Approaching this a totally different way now.

Pretty straight forward statement. Ten people.. one house.. ok, gotcha.

Interesting choice of words. The statement talks about an individual named Everbody. This individual is also a male. However, there is little else we know about him. I will refer to Everybody as Ev. Ev may or may not even be present in the house.

Now this is the part that is throwing me. Ev wants to shake hands with people shorter then himself, but is he even at the party?

Ok, I just lost myself. Those are my thoughts.

45 is correct if all are of equal length.

Remember that in order for a hand shake to take place you need another party who is willing to shake your hand.
