as for what i have to back that up-well the unabomber and tim mcveigh didnt mind being called mass murderers but they didnt want to be called 'crazy"...and alot of people with experience in mental health treatment said they were in fact paranoid schizophrenics.....people can lead fairly normal productive non violent lives with this illness-but only with treatment and medication is of vital importance...........mohammed atta-the lead pilot of the 9/11 attacks-was in fact a classic paranoid schizophrenic with terminator- like determination to carry out his role.......go online to THE DSM IV or WEB MD and read up on this illness.............with 3 years of college in social work and psychology and 5 years as a psych tech i do know this illness when i see it...even when its veiled by political or religous dogma.....

Given that there was Kozinski and McVeigh, as well as Eric Rudolf and Paul Hill, how do you claim the situation here is any different than in the Muslim world? No one here is compelled to treatment, and barring falling afoul of the law, could pass a lifetime without being subjected to any official scrutiny. Most Muslims live in a world of grinding poverty. Many in the west decry their culture, yet ignore that they essentially live as did their ancestors of a thousand years ago. Without decent education and the public health services which would protect them from the effects of a common infection, let alone mental illness, it seems a bit much to me to have thrown out this blanket condemnation. Without denying the claim, i am curious to know how it is that you claim Atta was a "classic" case. Do you have a detailed description of his day to day life which you feel authorizes such a "diagnosis" on your part?

Poverty and political repression, seen as being the product of American policies to protect American interest have much more to do with the willingness of many Muslims to engage in terror. I think your thesis is a reach.

as i said please consult medical/psychiatry websites to learn the criteria for paranoid schizophrenia.....regardles of east or west or rich or poor or whatever-paranoid schizophrenia is a genetic mental illness that left untreated always has ruinous consequences for the perosn who has it-their families/friends etc etc....to be a suicidal/homicidal terrorist you have to be able to nullify all non terrorist emotions that would normally "wake you up"....but paranois schizophrenics have genetic brain disorders that contantly generate like a nuclear reactor until there is a meltdown.....terrorism doesnt come from poverty or islaam.......but given that the mentally ill frequently are made to feel less than human by most cultures-they are always looking to find where in the world they belong.and if accepted by the murderous mullahs of islaam they feel not only "cured' but are resolute to do whatever osama or some "cleric" tell them....cause now they arent crazy-they are special and allahs warriors and after smashing themselves into office buildings they will be reborn in a blissful garden of eden with 72 virgins and yadda yadda yadda............all religions victimize the mentally ill.......islaam just uses them to kill non muslims.or muslims who arent radical enough and want infidel pleasures such as democracy and tolerance of other people.......i am very sorry that the middle east has melted down into monarchs mulland dictators for leaders-but they have done it with the blessing of mullahs who would rather see anything but competition from christians,jews,buudhists or whatever....

People are conditioned to notions of right and wrong, and the place of violence in their lives by their culture and their environment, without regard to a relative statement of the individual's mental health. Those who have nothing have nothing to lose. The fanatical christian is just as likely to see themselves in paradise tomorrow at the right hand of god if they commit such an act. The principle difference is that a western christian has a great deal to lose. Atta may well have been as you describe him--but you've provided no evidence that you have sufficient information to make the claim. Granting that Atta was a p-s case, it is important to recall that U.S. authorities have already stated that many of those involved in the hi-jackings were likely unaware of the suicidal nature of the mission. What bothers me is you are attempting to construct a stereotype of an entire class of people--Muslims--based upon the American obsession with the alleged prevalence of terrorism among that population, and coming up with a pseudo-scientific explanation for what is basically a racist view. Many people condemn lawyers, often out of resentment based on stereotypes. Not all lawyers are corrupt, self-interested money grubbers. However, the potential for harm is significant, so even a few venal lawyers in positions of power can make the stereotypes seem real. I suspect VBT has none, and that this is completely conjecture. VBT also doesn't seem to understand the dynamics of a Muslim community. A mosque is not a church in the sense of the connotations which that institution has for us. Applying the term cleric to an imam or mullah is inappropriate as well-such individuals study and teach Islam, they have no authority in the community by definition, only to the extent that they are respected in a community. In a Muslim community, the moral authority reposes in the ulama (singular=alim), the aggregate of those seen in the community as righteous men. An imam or mullah will likely be considered to be an alim, but not necessarily have any more authority accrue to them than to any other righteous man. Islam is not a structured religious institution as the sects of christianity are. I frankly think that the idea suggested itself to VBT because of its plausibility, in the absence of sufficient information about Muslims and the Muslim world to see the crucial differences between the west and the Muslim world, which difference far more readily explain the ability of terrorists to recruit there.

I had one class in abnormal psych, which does not make me an expert in the field by any means. but I'm not certain that one can classify peoples of the Middle East as paranoid/schizophrenic on the basis of terrorist attacks.
