Twas checking the box office totals for this weekend. Why? Because I'm a weird cinema geek (most of you already knew or suspected that one) when I noticed that The Third Man (1949) had some kind of theatrical rerelease (Anniversary? Print remaster? Other?).
What classic movie would you love to see (revisit or see for the first time) on the big cinema screen if you could?
I could add a few thousand movies I haven't seen in the movie that would be exciting to see on the silverscreen. I'm really happy I did get to see Jaws (1975); 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968); A Clockwork Orange (1971); etc... at separate midnight screenings at the
Landmark Sunshine. Midnight movies are a blast! I also watched a screening of the remastered rerelease of Z (1969) at the movies several years ago but my friends at the time weren't too impressed like I was.
Seen The Shining (1980) on an outdoor screening. Twas also quite fun to see on the big screen!
Here's a really random sampling of a few movies that would translate well on the big screen (as opposed to simply rewatching it on the television at home).
Ivan's Childhood (1962)
Mr. Hulot's Holiday (1953)
The Battle of Algiers (1966)
The Manchurian Candidate (1962)
Stalker (1979)
Fahrenheit 451 (1966)
Apocalypse Now (1979)
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966)
Casablanca (1942)
Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977)
Chinatown (1974)
Le Million (1931)
Alien (1979)
I haven't seen Lawrence of Arabia (1962) but I might try it if given a chance to see it at the movies.
