I have two computers and sometimes my laptop set up through a router with a cable modem. It seems that pretty much suddenly about 2 weeks ago, my connection runs VERY slow. Sometimes I can't access my e-mail and sometimes I can't even log on. I haven't changed any settings. The problems are happening on both computers, and when the connection is lost on one it USUALLY happens to the other. I have called the cable company several times when connection is lost and they show a good connection to the modem. They suggested maybe it is my router and it may need updated... What? Also they suggested resetting the modem and router (unplugging) , which does seems to help (sometimes). I have downloaded a free virus check program called Avast Virus Scanner and it did not find any virus.
My connection used to be so much better. I'm almost to the point of reformatting both computers and starting over, but I want that to be a last resort. I'm sure getting everything back working at all would be a big task. I also run a freeware called Spysweeper (every night) and Ad Aware (occasionally). ANY SUGGESTIONS?

"Do I have a bug???"

Maybe, maybe not. You do not include any information that can help determine this.

Suggestions:

1) Get real AV protection forget the free crap unless you like viruses

2) Press Ctrl Alt Delete once and you will get to the task manager.

Go to the processes tab and you can see what's using resources.

When your puter gets bogged down, check that list and see what process it is.

If you do not understand what process it is, ask us and we can help.

Craven, Thanks for the feedback. However, I FINALLY found out what my problem was. It turns out that my computer/router was set for a static IP address and it wasn't supposed to be st that way. I didn't even know what that was. However, they have now been corrected and everything seems to run MUCH faster now (just like the good old days).
