Motherboard standoffs, washers or not?

Can someone please help a newbie computer builder with a simple problem to which I am having trouble finding an answer. Do I need to use washers on brass standoffs when installing the motherboard? The m/b manual unhelpfully does not mention standoffs, the pack of fittings that came with the case does not include washers. One source I found said that washers were necessary to stop the m/b grounding, other sources said not to use washers to enable the board to ground, they cannot both be right surely? Tech support at MSI have not even bothered to answer my query. Any help you can give will be gratefully received.
Many thanks.

The quick and dirty answer is "It depends". Smile

Sorry. Some motherboards use the mounting screws as a part of the M/B gounding system in which case you DON'T want insulators (rubber or plastic washers) there. On other M/Bs the ground system is seperate and connects only through the power cables and you DO want the insulators.

I'd assemble the system with them in and see what happens. If everything works fine just leave it then. If not, disassemble and take the insulators out. *shrugs*

I'd do the same, but by the way just because the system works for a while with them in wouldn't necessarily mean that the motherboard has been properly grounded.
