Missing tabs revisited

Reply Tue 12 May, 2015 10:04 am
Yes I've asked before; but who knows but we might have a newcomer who knows: Given Safari in Apple, oftentimes when I fire up, for no apparent reason all my tabs are missing

Probably I've clicked on something I shouldn't; but what

Thanks guys for your patience

@dalehileman,
Surely among some 300,000 participants one or two of ya would be usin' Safari

@dalehileman,
I use safari but I don't use tabs. I keep website lists catagorized in my bookmarks bar, and some of the sites on my desktop, an easy click. I don't even know what tabs are. Another word for windows?

Also, you well know there aren't 300,000 members hanging around here every day. Scolding through hyperbole is not inviting.

@ossobuco,
Thinking - that besides online sites, there probably are books out there on how to use safari. I have an old book called Mac OS X Tiger, way out of date of course. Having a book at hand might help you, if you get the right book for your particular iMac.
You could look up what book that would be online or ask at a mac store.
You could google your imac questions (I take it there are many mac help question sites).

I do use bookmarks also but the tabs are handier whenever available

No. When I open a site its name appears at the top of the page as a tab. Later then I can click on it to return, it's very handy; that is until they all mysteriously disappear

Of course Oss I was just sorta kidding; though you'd think at least one other regular uses tabs

Customize Toolbar, Show all tabs

Try it Oss, let me know if you find it useful

...in which case maybe you can also determine why it so often disappears

Dale, have you bothered to look back through all the other topics on the subject you have created to remind yourself how you fixed it before?

I'm too lazy to research and retype everything for you again if you are too lazy to at least make an attempt to refer back to it again when you have need for it.

Yea Beth, that's why "revisited". I keep hoping some newcomer might have an easy answer

In an earlier thread

http://able2know.org/topic/267006-1

...But had suggested quitting Safari before shutting down but that didn't work, maybe owing to some confusion between OS-Menu-Bar and Tabs

I'm glad however you brought that link to my attention because it's now apparent that the Tab Bar is also called Address Bar, switched on or off in View.

http://osxdaily.com/2014/09/25/show-missing-address-bar-safari/
...where I'm advised,

Quote:
If the toolbar is visible but the address bar is still missing, it means the toolbar was probably customized and the URL bar removed. That’s also an easy fix. Again, return to the “View” menu and choose “Customize Toolbar”, then drag and drop the default option into the toolbar to regain the lost address bar / smart search field and all other toolbar components

So it looks like a lot more keyclicks than I had anticipated, their "easy fix" being pretty involved. If I have any luck with this assumption I'll return to let a know. In any case thanks Beth for your participation

Meanwhile though doesn't anyone else in a2k use Tabs

@ehBeth,
Well Beth, I did find an icon, "Show All Tabs" dragged into the toolbar as advised but it didn't restore the Tabs

@djjd62,
Dj you've made my day!!!

However it's slowly dawning that the disappearance of the tabs, for instance upon exit, is purposeful where the average user might not want them to pile up

But I'm still appalled to conclude that among some 300,000 potential a2k'ers not a single peep to this effect. Makes me wonder if I might be using software from some previous era

It's as if at 84 I'm not placing terms in the proper order, or maybe following grammatical rules of another language
