agrote, I'm sorry. I thought for one wild moment that you were pretending to feel inadequate. It has happened. You appeared to write quite well, and that is why I wondered if, perhaps, you might be faking it. Sometimes a thread that starts out quite seriously, becomes captured by waggery. No harm intended, ok?

um absolutely not, maybe you should ask yourself whether or not you should even be apart of this chat room, obviously you know nothing of philosophy.

nn, I presume that's your response to the original post (if it isn't, then just ignore everything I'm about to say, I'm an idiot). Since when is philosophy the practice of simply agreeing with things, without question? Maybe it is - maybe I've missed something. I haven't actually begun studying it yet, so maybe I've failed to realise that it actually involves no debate whatsoever, and is simply the process of reading what other people have written, and then agreeing with it. Or maybe not.

This forum has the title Philosophy and DEBATE. I find more debate than philosophy, but I enjoy and learn from the ideas and perspectives of others, even when I disagree with them. I present my ideas, without too great a desire to pursuade, or change the perspective of others. The benefit comes from formulating my understanding of issues, from revealing to myself what I believe.

The irony here is too devastating.

It doesn't really matter what we say here. There will always be a benevolent despot who seeks to steal our soul, but at least they are honest in the stealing of it.

JL. I always thought that you and I had something in common...music...agree to disagree...guess not...

And tonight, Letty goes off to seek solace in the elephant graveyard, where the ivory is real.

Goodnight,

Okay well I'm still confused. I blame Letty - what the hell's a ruse?? Anyhoo, fortune is officially the new chief n00b for this thread, until I actually have something to say.

Er, I'm the new chief what? Sounds official whatever it is.

A fun example of the fallacy of dualistic fundamentalism: a mean drunk one night drew a chalk line through the center of his local pub. He then shouted out that everyone on the south side of the line is a bastard, and everyone on the north side of the line is a son of bitch. Upon hearing that another drunk stood up wielding a bottle and shouted that he was not a bastard. Our mean drunk then suggested in a reaonsable tone that he should then pass over to the north side of the line.

Thanks, dear. My computer seems to be going crazy. I may be out of circulation any day now. I'll probably buy another one. Any suggestions, anyone, as to what I should buy? (must be a lap top, and with good backkup service).

I'll pitch in and mention a mac (I am thinking of the Emac, the higher priced one, myself. (It's their second to the lowest priced computer). My local Simply MacIntosh folks are very responsive. Most others on a2k will suggest a pc, so I thought I'd speak fast.

On the triple posting.. I get it sometimes when I click on BACK after I post something.

Osso, honey. Heh!Heh! I think JL just gave us his malady for which there is no panacea. My ISP started to demand stuff for which I have not found a vaccine..soooooo I have no e-mail. They are fully aware that this is a long weekend in America and thereby hangs the fate of the net.

Alas and alack. Now this thread becomes academic. nn has not yet developed the difference between conscious and conscience...and I'm here trying to figure it all out.

Good night.
