I just bought a new computer and I still have the old one that I assume crashed. It starts up like normal and then it goes to a blue screen that says "Immountable boot volume" or whatever. What would have caused that and would I be able to get the stuff back from it?
Ummmm.
That sounds like a toasted hard drive.
It may be possible to get the data back, there are plenty of tools on the web you can download to try.
I'm sure Craven will know exactly what this means though.
Your boot.ini file is corrupted.
To solve this error, boot from your Windows XP CD and start the computer to the Recovery Console (R), and then run Chkdsk /r.
(Start the computer with the Windows XP CD drive, and then when prompted press any key to boot from CD.
On the Welcome to setup screen, press the R key on your keyboard to repair the Windows XP installation using Recovery Console.
On the next screen, press the number of the Windows installation for which you know the administrator password.
After selecting the appropriate Windows installation, type the administrator password when prompted.
At the propmt type Type "chkdsk /r" then enter
When done type "exit" and hit enter.
The system should boot back into Windows.)
If this solved the problem, immediately update your XP from microsoft.com to avoid this error in the future.
I think my friend tried that and it didn't work. I like my new one better. The old one had a 40GB hard drive and the new one has 160!!!! It also runs faster! I really don't know a lot about computers and all. Thanks Cyanure. Does anyone know some good sites where I can learn?
