When was the last time the Earth's magnetic field reversed itself?
I just read this today morning - and now I cant think of the answer (in Bill Bryson's book) - I will look it up and come back to you
Part of the article reads: "Beyond that, no one knows how long a shift takes -- could be thousands of years, could be overnight! (Although we think Alaskan salmon may know something we don't...)?
However, I checked with a salmon this morning and he doesn't know anything more than we do.
You probably talked to the wrong salmon, Nick.
Try Salmon Bob down at Ford's Creek.
He's a pretty sharp fish.
Hey kev: 780,000 thousand years ago? That would be, like, 780 million years, right?
By the way, if Salmon Bob knows the answer, is it because he's 780,000 years old, or did he just learn the answer at his school? I thought he was playing hookie that day? Sounds fishy to me...
Is Salmon Bob anything like Sheep Dip?

No Pedro, I've just spoken to Bob and he confirms that it was 780 thousand years ago NOT 780 million years.
I dont know where you kids get your wild figures from?
Thanks, kev, I was just trying to figure out why you originally said "780,000 thousand years ago". That cleared things up nicely, since I would trust Bob with my life.
