If possible you can install a Recover My Files Installation Program on a drive.Then click on a run recover my files and search your drive after you can show the loss files or data that can be found in the result screen.

@infodavidwatson,
Make backups of important stuff before a crash is the easiest way.

Next would be to take hard drive to another computer and recover files to that computer.

Then, re-installing OS over existing and that should keep most files depending on where they are saved.

@infodavidwatson,
If you have a store point in computer at a back date then you don't need to worry. just restore a previous store point.
In other case try a data recovery software.

@infodavidwatson,
The easiest way to recover data had already been mentioned. Back up so you don't ever lose it.

Once the data is lost, the easiest way to recover it depends on why it was lost. A file accidentally deleted and recognized right away is easier to recover than a disk drive that has crashed and can't be read at all.

@infodavidwatson,
First you need to confirm that in which condition you lost it. Maybe you can google a software to help you. And you'd better to backup your data always. Hope you can find your data back!

@infodavidwatson,
Yeah, I think, the best way to recover windows data
is to backup important files to cloud. In Windows 10, you can backup your data to OneDrive.
