Heard a BBC radio program on the ABC a couple of days ago, featuring many & varied musicians who'd recorded this one Chicago song. A lot! And each version sounded quite different to the next. I've been replaying it in my head since:

If you leave me now, you'll take away the biggest part of me
No baby please don't go
If you leave me now, you'll take away the very heart of me
No baby please don't go

A love like ours is love that's hard to find
How could we let it slip away
We've come too far to leave it all behind
How could we end it all this way
When tomorrow comes we'll both regret
Things we said today

A love like ours is love that's hard to find
How could we let it slip away
We've come too far to leave it all behind
How could we end it all this way
When tomorrow comes we'll both regret
Things we said today

If you leave me now, you'll take away the biggest part of me
No baby please don't go
Oh girl, just got to have you by my side

No baby, please don't go

Oh mama, I just got to have your lovin, yeah

We've come too far to leave it all behind

I have lyrics in my head which I can't post here. I'd get banned. I don't even think it'd work to bleep the bad words.

NPR did a segment Thursday an a new cd called "Moody Bluegrass" recorded in Nashville as a tribute to the Moody Blues. It's a great piece of music and now the song "It's Up To You" is stuck on replay.

Say hey Johnny boy, the battle call.
United we stand, divided we fall.
Together we are what we can't be alone,
We came to this country, you made it our home.

I tried to post them, but I can't. I keep humming and singing bits of Tenacious D. Geez, I can't even type some of the titles without getting banned.

I was listening to a ( tongue in cheek) program dedicated to "break up" songs earlier today. This one has stuck:

In a little while from now
If I'm not feeling any less sour
I promise myself to treat myself
And visit a nearby tower
And climbing to the top will throw myself off
In an effort to make it clear to whoever
What it's like when you're shattered
Left standing in the lurch at a church
Where people saying: "My God, that's tough"
"She stood him up"
"No point in us remaining"
"We may as well go home"
As I did on my own
Alone again, naturally

To think that only yesterday
I was cheerful, bright and gay
Looking forward to, who wouldn't do?
The role I was about to play?
But as if to knock me down
Reality came around
And without so much as a mere touch
Cut me into little pieces
Leaving me to doubt
Talk about God in His mercy
Who, if He really does exist,
Why did He desert me?
In my hour of need
I truly am indeed
Alone again, naturally

It seems to me that there are more hearts
Broken in the world that can't be mended
Left unattended
What do we do? What do we do?

(instrumental interlude)

Alone again, naturally

Looking back over the years
And whatever else that appears
I remember I cried when my father died
Never wishing to hide the tears
And at sixty-five years old
My mother, God rest her soul
Couldn't understand why the only man
She had ever loved had been taken
Leaving her to start with a heart so badly broken
Despite encouragement from me
No words were ever spoken
And when she passed away
I cried and cried all day
Alone again, naturally
Alone again, naturally
Sad

It alternates with this one, by you know who:

You got a lotta nerve
To say you are my friend
When I was down
You just stood there grinning

You got a lotta nerve
To say you gotta helping hand to lend
You just want to be on
The side that's winning

You say I let you down
You know it's not like that
If you're so hurt
Why then don't you show it

You say you lost your faith
But that's not where it's at
You had no faith to lose
And you know it

I know the reason
That you talk behind my back
I used to be among the crowd
You're in with

Do you take me for such a fool
To think I'd make contact
With the one who tries to hide
What he don't know to begin with

You see me on the street
You always act surprised
You say, "How are you?" "Good luck"
But you don't mean it

When you know as well as me
You'd rather see me paralyzed
Why don't you just come out once
And scream it

No, I do not feel that good
When I see the heartbreaks you embrace
If I was a master thief
Perhaps I'd rob them

And now I know you're dissatisfied
With your position and your place
Don't you understand
It's not my problem

I wish that for just one time
You could stand inside my shoes
And just for that one moment
I could be you

Yes, I wish that for just one time
You could stand inside my shoes
You'd know what a drag it is
To see you

This song just keeps replaying over and over today....

You were working as a waitress in a cocktail bar
When I met you
I picked you out, I shook you up, and turned you around
Turned you into someone new
Now five years later on you've got the world at your feet
Success has been so easy for you
But don't forget it's me who put you where you are now
And I can put you back down too

Don't, don't you want me?
You know I can't believe it when I hear that you won't see me
Don't, don't you want me?
You know I don't believe you when you say that you don't need me
It's much too late to find
You think you've changed your mind
You'd better change it back or we will both be sorry

Don't you want me baby? Don't you want me oh
Don't you want me baby? Don't you want me oh

I was actually thinking that the creative half of the band left and formed BEF and then Heaven 17, but now that you mention it - I remember it really straight and long on one side and short on the other. Hair used to be interesting in the 80s.

Now you got me stuck with this one:

The tears I cry aren't tears of pain
They're only to hide my guilt and shame
I forgive you now I ask the same of you
While we were apart I was human too

I'm only human
Of flesh and blood I'm made
I am just a man
Human
Born to make mistakes

I heard an old Springsteen song and now I can't get this one out of my head:

Well brunettes are fine man
And blondes are fun
But when it comes to getting a dirty job done

I'll take a redheaded woman
A redheaded woman
It takes a redheaded woman
To get a dirty job done

Well listen up stud
Your life's been wasted
'til you've got down on your knees and tasted

A redheaded woman
A redheaded woman
It takes a redheaded woman
To get a dirty job done

Tight skirt, strawberry hair
Tell me what you've got, baby, waiting under there
Big green eyes that look like, son,
They can see every cheap thing that you ever done

Well, I don't know how many girls you dated, man
But you ain't lived 'til you've had your tires rotated

By a redheaded woman
A redheaded woman
It takes a redheaded woman
To get a dirty job done

Very Happy
