@msolga,
Well yeaahhh! [slaps Gus's head]

Kinda prefer the out and out erotic imagery of The Boys Light Up:

Let me tell you about my mountain home
Where all the ladies names are Joan
Where husbands' work back late at night
Hopes are up for trousers down
With hostess on a business flight
-------The garden is a dorsetted
That lady - she's so corseted
She's got fifteen ways to lead that boy astray
He thinks he's one and only
But that lovely, she's so lonely
She pumps him full of breakfast and she sends him on his way

What a sing song dance
What a performance
What a cheap tent show
Oh no no no no no

Then the boys light up
Then the boys light up
Then the boys light up
Then the boys light up - light up - light up

I found myself singing the chorus to this song at top volume at work today.

Not entirely sure why...

@patiodog,
the song works on so many levels..starts out Dylan -like, and you think it'll lampoon the politically incorrect...but noooooo
it's really lampooning the politically correct as only Leary can master...it's no wonder Ford hired him to spearhead their massive new truck ad campaign..
the message seems to be...don't let those politically correct pansies tell you what brand of truck to buy.

I mentioned Paul Simon's first solo album on another thread here a short while ago .... which set this off, playing in my brain. Non-stop. Ah well, worse things could happen, I guess! Smile :

Ah, peace like a river ran through the city
Long past the midnight curfew
We sat starry-eyed
Ooh, oh,we were satisfied
O-o-oh, when I remember
Misinformation followed us like a plague
Nobody knew from time to time
If the plans were changed
Oh, oh, oh, if the plans were changed.

You can beat us with wires
You can beat us with chains
You can run out your rules
But you know you can't outrun the history train
I seen a glorious day, aiee------

Ah, four in the morning
I woke up from out of my dreams
Nowhere to go but back to sleep
But I'm reconciled
Oh, oh, oh, I'm going to be up for a while
Oh, oh, oh, I'm going to be up for a while

Oh, oh, oh, I'm going to be up for a while

@msolga,
msolga-rather late getting back to you.
I love pop songs with haiku-type lyrics;short and sweet.
The late Keith Whitley for example

Quote:
Where there's a cloud, don't mean there's rain
Tears in my eyes, don't mean there's pain
Don't flatter yourself
I'm over you

You heard i'm drinking more than i should
That i ain't been looking all that good
Someone told you i was taking it rough
Why they making those stories up
When i'm over you

I was playinng around on youtube this morning, exploring the music clips. And came a cross this old Leonard Cohen song. Not the most fabulous clip, but the actual song is great!

Anyway, all day long I've been singing this, or else hearing it in my head:

Everybody knows, everybody knows
That's how it goes
Everybody knows
....

"Everybody Knows"

Everybody knows that the dice are loaded
Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed
Everybody knows that the war is over
Everybody knows the good guys lost
Everybody knows the fight was fixed
The poor stay poor, the rich get rich
That's how it goes
Everybody knows
Everybody knows that the boat is leaking
Everybody knows that the captain lied
Everybody got this broken feeling
Like their father or their dog just died

Everybody talking to their pockets
Everybody wants a box of chocolates
And a long stem rose
Everybody knows

Everybody knows that you love me baby
Everybody knows that you really do
Everybody knows that you've been faithful
Ah give or take a night or two
Everybody knows you've been discreet
But there were so many people you just had to meet
Without your clothes
And everybody knows

Everybody knows, everybody knows
That's how it goes
Everybody knows

Everybody knows, everybody knows
That's how it goes
Everybody knows

And everybody knows that it's now or never
Everybody knows that it's me or you
And everybody knows that you live forever
Ah when you've done a line or two
Everybody knows the deal is rotten
Old Black Joe's still pickin' cotton
For your ribbons and bows
And everybody knows

And everybody knows that the Plague is coming
Everybody knows that it's moving fast
Everybody knows that the naked man and woman
Are just a shining artifact of the past
Everybody knows the scene is dead
But there's gonna be a meter on your bed
That will disclose
What everybody knows

And everybody knows that you're in trouble
Everybody knows what you've been through
From the bloody cross on top of Calvary
To the beach of Malibu
Everybody knows it's coming apart
Take one last look at this Sacred Heart
Before it blows
And everybody knows

Everybody knows, everybody knows
That's how it goes
Everybody knows

Oh everybody knows, everybody knows
That's how it goes
Everybody knows

Everybody knows

@msolga,
I wouldn't mind having that song stuck in my head but it's one of those songs where I'm not to terribly familiar with the lyrics because I came rather late to the Leonard Cohen bandwagon. I heard him give an interview on Fresh Air sometime this year and I got his London concert album. Great stuff.

What a pathetic pity his jack ass of a manager extorted 3 to 4 million dollars from Cohen's bank account while he was on that several year retreat at the Buddhist monastery. His manager couldn't pay a single penny back because he spent it all or something like that.

@tsarstepan,
A pox on his manager, tsar!
I mean, what sort of a manager would rip his client off while he was in a Buddhist retreat getting his act together, for gods sake?

But, as we all know, in this hard world we live in:

Everybody knows
Everybody knows
That's how it goes.
Everybody knows ...

I'm not all that familiar with all things Leonard Cohen, either, tsar. I used to find him too depressing. But, ya know, in these strange times we live in, some of his songs seem.. well, rather apt! Wink

That's why his interview was so intriguing. The songs they played were musical epiphanies that connected the first time I heard them. Very Happy

Leonard Cohen: Zen And The Art Of Songwriting

April 3, 2009 - Leonard Cohen is touring the U.S. for the first time in 15 years.

The deep-voiced musician, best known for writing songs that straddle the folk-rock fence, has produced numerous albums and written several books of poetry. He has been inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the U.S.

Here, Cohen joins Fresh Air host Terry Gross to talk about his poetry, his songwriting and his time at a retreat called the Zen Center.

@tsarstepan,
Thank you for the link to the interview, tsar.
I've listened to the first bit, but must leave the rest till later. When I'm not cooking dinner. Like now.
But I'm really look forward to hearing the whole interview! Sounds good.

@msolga,
I like this song: Don't Cry for Me Argentina

it won't be easy, you'll think it strange
when i try to explain how i feel
that i still need your love after all that i've done
you won't believe me
all you will see is a girl you once knew
although she's dressed up to the nines
at sixes and sevens with you
i had to let it happen, i had to change
couldn't stay all my life down that hill
looking out of the window,
staying out of the sun
so i chose freedom
running around trying everything new
but nothing impressed me at all
i never expected it to
don't cry for me argentina
the truth is i never left you
all through my wild days
my mad existence
i kept my promise
don't keep your distance
and as for fortune, and as for fame
i never invited them in
though it seemed to the world they were all i desired
they are illusions
they're not the solutions they promised to be
the answer was here all the time
i love you and hope you love me
don't cry for me Argentina......
don't cry for me Argentina
the truth is i never left you
all through my wild days
my mad existence
i kept my promise
don't keep your distance
have i said too much? there's nothing more i can think
of to say to you
but all you have to do is look at me to know that every
word is true
