Vietnamnurse,

Thanks - the link worked as advertised!! I'm sad to hear of your heating or lack thereof problem. You're very welcome to visit us here in Texas till the crisis passes or three days is up (the old relatives and fish theory- lol :-D)
Thanks again, I quickly scanned the article and have only confirmed my opinion that Pres Bush is not giving anyone a very good reason for his inflexible approach to the Iraq situation. Some may even think it is from a desire on his father's part to finally finish something left undone. That's sheer speculation on my part and probably has no real substance in fact, who knows?? We should keep in mind with reference to the SecDef that he works for the Pres and those views expressed by him - no matter the language he uses - are the views of the Pres. Else he would not be there for very long.
I rather enjoy the blunt, to the point anecdotes he uses. And, I'm sure that as casual as he appears in public there are some tense moments to his daily life.

Blatham:

Lieberman went to Yale law school with three friends of mine. When he was chosen as running mate by Gore in 2000, they were dumbfounded. He was president of his class or held some high position on one of the student councils...they all thought he was an arrogant man. I didn't know much more about him, but these last two years of observing him in action "toadying" up to Bush on almost all legislation, has given me a much different view than I had before. Some say he has the Jewish vote sewn up...well, maybe the Jewish hawk vote, because Jews do not vote in blocks. My husband would join you on your sled if he got the nomination!

Well, apart from his service record, Bush the Younger is largely irrelevant to any discussion of The Recent Southeast Asian Unpleasnantness.

Lieberman and The 2004 Dem Candidate Circus currently is performing over at http://www.able2know.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2564&highlight= Be sure to catch the show.

danon, I suspect there may be a bit of personal gratification attendant on redressing insult done to daddy. I doubt it is a prime mover, but I am sure it meets no disaproval in young George's mind.

I'm sure the desire to enrich the Bush family weighs far greater as an incentive over undoing a past insult.

I'm sure we've all heard the phrase, "Money is power." Exactly how much money does it take to have power? Wink c.i.

BillW,
It would require actual stupidity over ignorance for the Bush family to realize profit even unilaterally subsequent to any conflict begun by a Bush. And, while he does not have a complete command of the english language - I don't think he is stupid. I also heard on the Today Show news this morning that Iraq's oil comprises only 3% of the worlds oil supply. While a lot of money, 3% isn't all that much. Well, yeah it is.....

timber, Only the most extremely nescient mind would possibly think that Pappy and the Pres aren't speaking - and I'm referring to current events. I still feel Pappy made a good decision at the time to not continue on to Baghdad based on the war's objectives and the fact that Saddam had a then recent history of working hand in hand with the CIA. His crystal ball was a little cloudy and I don't blame him, however, history has taken it's toll and we all now see the error in his stopping the onslaught. Whodaguessed. Pappy would probably like to retract his 'read my lips' speech also, but, good luck to him on that one.

Thanks for the invitation to Texas...my mom has always told me that little phrase about "dead fish"! By the way, my folks are transplanted Yankees and live in Dallas.

I'll take you up on the brandy...a snifter full will be just dandy, thanks! Very Happy

Here's a thought ... slightly related ... The contemporary French Ivory Coast intervention may show lessons have been drawn from their Southeast Asian Embarrassments and North African Disappointments.

Danon:

You and the rest of the vets are the ones who deserve the thanks. Many of you never really got the welcome and recognition you so rightly deserved. We nurses and docs (met my hubby there...he was chief of medicine at our hospital), had it easy compared to what you endured. My heart has always been with those we saved and I grieve for the ones we could not.

I may take you up on the offer for coffee sometime...that would be fun.

I understand they're not all that hard to kill, c.i.;
They don't move quite as fast, so you don't lead 'em as much. They tend to be a little shorter, too, so draw down a hair or two before cuttin' loose. Twisted Evil

Hello All:

I've been a lousy host on this topic. I apologize for not having more time to really bring up more subject material. My new years resolution is to be more effective here!

I try to make a point of welcoming everyone to one of my interactions, and to be honest, as close as I try to watch, sometimes I drop the ball!

Maraso ... Thank you for responding to my invitation. I think all experiences are valuable here. I myself spent an entire two weeks in Vietnam when my group was targeted. We weren't out on the front line, fighting the daily horror of the war, we were simply working on computer upgrades and software updates. In less than two weeks, several of my group were dead, several of us were wounded, and I myself ended up in the hospital for three months while they put my legs back together,.

I never had to worry about getting shot at, I never had to suffer the environment and the hell of the daily exposure to the surrounding death and carnage. I was lucky! So many of you here have frontline experience, and I consider that much more important than anything I have to add!!

I hope to be a better host!!

I am still trying to locate the book in the following link. I may have posted this before, bit for those who may not have seen it ...

http://www.hyperionbooks.com/books/2000fall/hochiminh.htm

I want to thank everyone for their contributions here, it has been an eye-opener, and at times, mind-bending. Keep up the good work!!!
