Hi All:

My problem now is, like Dys, I don't trust the government, and the military as far as I can throw my house! It's even worse with the current administration because they have already told us in the beginning that they are going to lie to us. Nothing coming out of Washington can be trusted, and I think that includes 9/11!

Well it's almost midnight on the East Coast, so I think I'll bring over a few posts from AU's thread as background.

Time for the instigator of the thread to be "on thread" Smile

Any ideas, facts, fiction that you know about the VN war. Let's debunk the lies as much as we mere mortals can.

OK, I thought I would start with a few links and background that I used in AU's interaction. I was using them to refute some remarks by another poster.

First, a Time Magazine article on HO ...
http://www.time.com/time/time100/leaders/profile/hochiminh.html

Then a quick brief to establish some more facts ...
http://motlc.wiesenthal.org/text/x22/xm2201.html

Then there is the official biography from the Vietnamese Communist Party ...
http://www.cpv.org.vn/hochiminh_en/biography/docs/chapter7.htm

I have also turned up this definitive (they say) book on Ho and his life. You can read the info yourself, but I intend to hunt it down tomorrow ...
http://www.hyperionbooks.com/books/2000fall/hochiminh.htm

I would like to dispel the myth's and misinformation before we go too far. Then we can start getting into the actual beginnings of the Vietnam War. The dates given begin in 1954, but I think the conception started in 1920, or before. It just took a while to get started!!

Can you believe that the American people are letting themselves be lead down the path again. Strange what the consistent use of fear can accomplish, dontcha think ??

We are being suckered into another war with Iraq, just like we were the first Iraqi war. Suckered, hooked, and manipulated right out of our senses!!

Such a waste of what could be a great nation!!

Anon, After all these years, all I can remember is that the French were the first to battle the congs. I didn't know that the war actually started back in the early fifties. c.i.

CI:

If you take a look at the links, you'll find that Ho had the seeds of discontent as early, or earlier than 1920. He was a message carrier for the Anti-French resistance as a teen. The very essence of ejecting the French began at a very young age!

Air America was a CIA front in Viet Nam back in the 1950's.

They were very deep in Laos and Cambodia also. General Secord of Iran/Contra fame was mixed up with Air America and building CIA money with his first Drug smuggling operations.

Before he got to Iran/Contra he already had beaucoupe experience in drug smuggling! Don't forget Admiral Poindexter - and now he is in charge of the US information center on US citizens. It even gets scarier and scarier!

Hey Timber!

Glad to see you could make it! We're just laying some groundwork so far, waiting for a few more people to show up before we actually get into the hot and heavy!!

We had to postpone the cruise, JayBea is too unstable right now and the Doctor has urged me to wait for a while. We're bummed, but that's why we have a bunch of Doctors, to tell us is smart and what isn't!!

No wonder Dys, you WERE lied to.
I agree that we have met the enemy and it is us.
Our country is culpable for failing to disarm -
and most likely responsible for the state of world
affairs which we happen to be in today.
By refusing to give up the position of TOP
DOG - all that we have done, is to allow other
idiot 3rd world nations purchase, or steal (or
maybe to get via govt graft and greed)
enough info and material to make their own
atom bombs. So now, they can thumb their noses
at us, nya nya nya you aren't the only kid on
the block with a big bomb anymore. We wanted to
watch everyone else disarm, while WE lied and kept
the upper hand. America is a dirty little country,
we have EARNED that! All those dirty little lies about
the terror of communism, and had america believing
that Russia was our huge, strong enemy & then all
of a sudden - big bad russia disintegrates before our
very eyes, not a word about that er, imbalance in the
perception of russia which americans were "taught"
to have. Just as stupid as McCarthy with his with
little witch hunts. And no doubt as stupid as is Bush
trying to keep our attention off what else he is doing
while teaching americans that every moment we are
in danger from a country full of rock throwing idiots!

Babs:

I bow to your post, my feelings exactly!!

Everyone:

I am hunting down the book today that I mentioned earlier. I had hoped to have more people join in, but can't wait forever!

I'll start bringing in the early developments of Ho, and the dynamics of that made the Vietnam war grow, continue, and eventually, be won by the North.
