what is pierce's view of thought in relation to his claim that every sort of modification of consciousness---attention,sensation and understanding--is an inference??

No offense, but haven't you pretty much answered your own question? Clearly, you're taking a course on the American pragmatists. What are you actually asking? What is not clear from your reading? i hope that you're not in the middle of a take-home exam...

no its not a take home exam, thank god, but it is one of the questions on the worksheet I was handed. but I don't think I answered it already because what I wrote was word for word with what was on the H.W. sheet.. i'm just not too familiar with the topic.
