Bobby Darin started out as a song-writer, with indifferent success, and then got involved with Connie Francis (who later said not marrying him was the biggest mistake she ever made). Her father didn't approve and he drifted to other jobs, mostly song writing. His singing career did not take off until he recorded this in 1958:
