Harper's Advice to Would Be Poets
by
Harper
There will be other hills to climb
Before succumbing to that ghastly chime
Songs to sing and dreams to dream,
And lines to rhyme, before my time.
Yes, lines to rhyme if it were so easy, be
To make a life of mere words, I see
Oh how simple it would be to make a life of verse
Instead of being cast away
or worse
But, mere words cannot buy bread
They'll likely lead to the welfare line instead
And soon to lose the comfort of your own bed
And the shelter of the roof above your head
Oh, oh my how do I digress?
To ponder going on with life that's such a mess
But I'm a cowardly fool, I must confess
And for that alone, I shall answer, yes
There will be other hills to climb
Before succumbing to that ghastly chime
Songs to sing and dreams to dream,
And lines to rhyme, before my time.
You don't need Harpers to get advise to would-be poets. Don't try it; it's tough living under the bridge.
