I am a 56 year old woman who has worked in health care for 35 years. I now find myself unable to work due to medical reasons. I have been unemployed for a little over 1 year now. I have been told that I do not qualify for unemployment. I have applied for disability benefits and am waiting for a final decision. Also, I have exhausted my savings and retirement plan to live on. Would I be able to receive welfare benefits in the meantime, waiting on disability benefits? I am desperate.... I live in Alabama, if that helps to clarify.

Yes... I have an Obama health insurance plan that is costing me $567/month. I had Cobra coverage before, but they were going up to over $600.00/month. I am single with no children. I didn't qualify for any decrease on my insurance costs even though I have no income. It's crazy.... I've worked since I was 15 years old and now I feel like I am abandoned by the system.... Doesn't help my already severe depression and anxiety....
