All these things refer to any government in the world, from Swedish to North Korean. All these quotes show that their authors are witty people. Let us assume that they have convinced everyone that the government (any) is a bunch of corrupt idiots. But do they have any alternative to propose?

A bureaucrat is a Democrat who holds some office that a Republican wants. - - Alben W. Barkley

Liberals feel unworthy of their possessions. Conservatives feel they deserve everything they've stolen. - - Mort Sahl

The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed, and hence clamorous to be led to safety, by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary. - - H.L. Mencken

We know what happens to people who stay in the middle of the road. They get run down. - - Aneurin Bevan

People never lie so much as after a hunt, during a war or before an election. - - Bismarck

Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety. - - Benjamin Franklin

Politics is the art of looking for trouble, finding it, misdiagnosing it, and then misapplying the wrong remedies. - - Groucho Marx

A conservative is one who admires radicals centuries after they're dead. - - Rosten, Leo C.

A religious conservative is a fanatic about a dead radical. - - Unknown

The Democrats seem to be basically nicer people, but they have demonstrated time and again that they have the management skills of celery. They're the kind of people who'd stop to help you change a flat, but would somehow manage to set your car on fire. I would be reluctant to entrust them with a Cuisinart, let alone the economy. The Republicans, on the other hand, would know how to fix your tire, but they wouldn't bother to stop because they'd want to be on time for Ugly Pants Night at the country club. - - Dave Barry

It could probably be shown by facts and figures that there is no distinctly native American criminal class except Congress. - - Mark Twain

The direct use of force is such a poor solution to any problem, it is generally employed only by small children and large nations. - - David Friedman
