@FBM,
Be back by dark--my grandmother had an old school teachers bell which she would ring when it was time for supper. We had enough sense to be within sound of the bell by that time of day; it meant it was time to eat!
@Setanta,
Yeah, playing distance from house = 1/time to suppertime.
And there was also hollerin' to call up anything from the kids to the cows.
Is there anyone here who agrees with CPS on this one? This seems to be a rather one sided discussion.
@maxdancona,
If you agree with them, say so. We are not obliged, you know, to take positions solely in the interest of some vague notion of balance.
@Setanta,
I don't agree with CPS, their actions in this case are ridiculous.
I just find it amusing that as contentious as this issue is, and as combative as Able2Know is of late, that there everyone seems to be in agreement.
Kumbaya.
@maxdancona,
Able2know is a self-selecting sample. You have to be able to construct a coherent sentence to continue posting regularly.
Perhaps, the type of people who would vote for these child leash laws can't do that.
I find it a relief that there's something we can talk about without being so contentious.*
*No group hugs or warm fuzzies, though, please.
@maxdancona,
What a snide, sneering little trouble-maker you are. Put that kumbaya **** where the sun don't shine. Is that contentious enough for you, you big phony?
@Setanta,
Oh Setanta, you seem a bit grumpy. Would you like a hug?
@FBM,
But Setanta is so huggable....
From the age of 5, I walked to and from school alone. My mother walked with me the first couple of days of kindergarten and then I was on my own. The CPS actions are preposterous.

Be that as it may, he's still a hard-leg. I only hug split-tails...

Seems, they just follow the law.

Sadly, not true.
Interestingly, I have a case right now where the other side has just complained because my client is letting his 9 and 7 year old children walk home from school. The other attorney is threatening to take this issue to court.
@Brandon9000,
Exactly--my sister and i did the same.
I was missed when playing outside in my kindergarten class. I'd not been in the earlier class, so in the new one. No one came to get me so I walked home, maybe ten blocks across at least one relatively biggo street.
Start of a walker, hey!
I remember a lot of stuff going on.
One day, when I was still in the first grade, I misinterpreted the call to recess and walked home. Nobody checked with my parents to see what happened to me. Next day, the teacher said, "The bell rang, and where was Edgar?" I just looked at her and that was the end of it.
