A few years ago I would have called inktomi. Does anyone know of a company that provides the software to build an industry-specific search engine. Our company is interested in an easy to use software solution for running a search engine/directory that is specific to our industry. Anyone have any thoughts?

If you want a remotely hosted service there are quite a few in our portal (see link in page header) and some will allow you to specify domains, they'll spider and index them and serve results that you can template.
If you want your own spider, well there are a bunch of those but they are usually subpar.
But what is it? A search engine or a portal? Cause the portal up there is a directory but can also spider sites, but not well enough to serve as a real search engine.
I am hoping to find a directory search software. Companies in this industry would be able to submit their url for inclusion, the software would crawl and index their site. Rather than one where it searched a database for preselected keywords and descriptions.
I'll search through the portal here (which incidentally is the type of portal I am thinking of I think)
