You should ask this question in the "computers" forum. You're much more likely to hit an expert on the subject.

Pentium I (Internal Clock Frequency ICF = 60-200 MHZ)

-XP requires 300 MHZ and up ( So XP definitley NO)
-Windows 2000 requires a minimum of 133 MHZ (Highly it will not function , but it functions then a very poor performance)

Pentium III (450 MHZ - 2,6 GHZ)
YES

I will answer the 2 remaining questions after I eat Laughing Yum YUm

Just to clarify something here:
Pentium I (1993) is indeed 60-->66 MHZ
However some consider the pentium Pro (1995) as Pentium I also. Pentium Pro is 150-166-180-200 MHZ

So If you mean pure Pentium I (60-66 MHZ) then XP and 2000 can't be installed.
And if you mean Pentium Pro (150 --> 200 MHZ) then XP can't be installed. Windows 2000 could be installed but it's not recommended due to the poor perfornance.

The differences are toooooooo many to list here.

Just some Examples:

Windows 98 only support the FAT 32 system and it doesn't support NTFS.
Fat 32 can't be installed on a partition greater than 32 GB. For example if you have a HD of 40 GB and you choose to install Windows 98, then you are obliged to create 2 partitions: one 32 GB and the other 8 GB.

XP support both FAT 32 and NTFS. NTFS broke the limit of 32 GB and offers Permissions, Security, Disk Compression, disk Quotas, Mounting, Efficient use of Disk space.

XP uses a CHDSK while 98 SCANDISK

XP offers better file handling than 98.

Windows XP has a System Restore option not found in Windows 98.

XP offers group policies for computers configuration and users' configuration (software settings, windows settings, and Administrative templates), Administrative Tools...

Both have different files needed to boot the OS.

Hardware requirements are different:
Windows 98
Minimum: 486DX, 66MHZ processor or higher; 16 MB of RAM; 200 MB available disk; VGA
Windows XP
Minimum: 300 MHZ processor; 64 MB of RAM but may limit its performance; 1.5 GB of available disk; SVGA

Windows XP offer much much much better universal drivers.

XP offers Remote Assistance, Remote Desktop, Hibernation, Error Reporting, Driver Signing, Automatic Update, Last known good configuration, better Networking options, Customizing Desktop, Encryption, Analyzing HD b4 defragmentation…etc…etc……etc………etc…

Today you can use software that fix, clean, and analyze the registry such as Registry Mechanic, Registry CheckUp, Registry First Aid, Registry Cleaner, Registry Medic, Registry Optimizer, Registry Defragmentation...

The simplest solution is to back your whole registry and restore it back when you face problems. Or to back up the keys you need to change and restore them later.
Also System restore can fix Registry changes.

In windows 98 you can use in DOS scanreg/fix to fix the registry or scanreg/restore to restore the last 5 saved regisrty.
