Once again calling all poets, painters, musicians, and music lovers.

Today in Norman Rockwell's birthday, so here is a tribute to him.

I read Lost Horizon and I still wonder about its existence:

Lost Horizon?
"Lost Horizon" - the James Hilton novel about a mysterious, paradisiacal monastery amidst the frozen Himalayas, called "Shangri la".

Well, it looks as though it's just me, myself, and I again. That used to make me sad, but no longer.

How about calling all sinners.

"Shut Up and Kiss Me" is a great follow-up to "Shut Up and Dance".
Someone actually said something quite like that to a young, shy me long,
long ago.

BROUGHT TO BOOK.- MR. ARTHUR H. D. ACKLAND complains that "Government Literature," by which he means the Blue Books, is not bought out, either in style or price, in a manner to attract the general reading public. Why not, then, start a Shilling Series, on the following lines? Here is a suggestive preliminary list:- Saved! or, the Eleventh Hour. A Cabinet Romance. By the PRIME MINISTER; Cutlasses and Contracts. A Story of the sea. By the FIRST LORD OF THE ADMIRALTY; The O'Rourkes of Rory Point A tale of Irish Adventure. By Sir M. HICKS-BEACH; The Financial Spectre. A Psychological Mystery. By the CHANCELLOR of the EXCHEQUER; The Democrat's Curse. A Social Problem. By the SECRETARY to the BOARD of TRADE; and Wild Times at Woolwich. An Ordnance Novel. By the SECRETARY of STATE for WAR.

Blue book or bluebook is a term often referring to an almanac or other compilation of statistics and information. The term dates back to the 15th century, when large blue velvet-covered books were used for record-keeping by the Parliament of the United Kingdom.

As for the names, this was the closest I could get to a Mr Arthur H D Ackland.

Quote:
Sir Arthur Herbert Dyke Acland, 13th Baronet PC (13 October 1847 – 9 October 1926) was a Liberal politician and political author. He is best remembered for his involvement with educational issues and served as Vice President of the Council of Education under William Ewart Gladstone and the Earl of Rosebery between 1892 and 1895.

He really looks the life and soul of the party.

As for M. Hicks-Beach, I got this guy.

Quote:
Michael Edward Hicks Beach, 1st Earl St Aldwyn Bt, PC, PC (Ire) (23 October 1837 – 30 April 1916), known as Sir Michael Hicks Beach, Bt, from 1854 to 1906 and subsequently as The Viscount St Aldwyn to 1915, was a British Conservative politician. Known as "Black Michael", he notably served as Chancellor of the Exchequer from 1885 to 1886 and again from 1895 to 1902 and also led the Conservative Party in the House of Commons from 1885 to 1886. Due to the length of his service, he was Father of the House from 1901 to 1906, when he took his peerage.

Good early morning from our Florida radio station.

edgar, I missed old blue eyes, but loved In The Misty Moonlight.''
Latin George, Yep, I'm glad you recognized that one, buddy.

Pullman, as you know, I love history. Thanks for that memory, buddy.

Olivier5, Kismet do you suppose?

As edgar/Mark knows I now feel my dreams, and I awakened feeling some woman trying to steal my opal ring. I told her that she was going to be stung by a scorpion.

When I was at UVA, I did a study on The Cavaliers and traced it back to this
golden oldie:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XTasxud2ukY

and the lyrics:

A Spanish cavalier stood in his retreat,
And on his guitar play'd a tune, dear;
The music so sweet they'd oft-times repeat.
The blessing of my country and you, dear.

Chorus.
Say, darling, say, when I'm far away.
Sometimes you may think of me, dear;
Bright sunny days will soon fade away,
Remember what I say and be true, dear.

I'm off to the war, to the war I must go,
To fight for my country and you, dear;
But if I should fall in vain, I would call
The blessing of my country and you, dear.-Chorus.

When the war is o'er to you I'll return.
Back to my country and you, dear;
But if I be slain, you may seek me in vain,
Upon the battle-field you will find me, dear.

My daughter and I watched a Cary Grant movie last evening and we remembered this song:

@edgarblythe,
Mark, I know Cathy's Clown by those brothers and it reminded me of Enrico Caruso. Music critics once observed that if they could compare a famous bass singer with a famous tenor, it would be Paul Robeson and Caruso.

I totally agree with them:

New edition out today, and I've found an article online so I don't have to write it out. A Harry or 'Arry is a good natured vulgar rogue. The poem is written in his vernacular and describes what happened when he was called as a witness in a civil case. In the copy I have it's called 'ARRY IN THE WITNESS BOX, other than that, it's the same.
