In the Rare Old Times

Good morning folkses. Tis a dull dreary morning outside my window, but it's warm in here.

Good morning from our Florida radio station. The humidity is high here and that's what causes me to be dizzy.

Hey, Brit. That letter was a bit hard for me to read, but I love the patois. My older sister called a gentleman, a gentle man.

McTag, Welcome back. Love both yours and edgar/Mark's Dublin songs. Make me think of euroGeorge. Hope he appears today.

Here's one for McTag:

and a funny one by Irving Berlin:

@Letty,

Well done, Letty and Leroy.

The old tune of "Scots Wha' Hae'" comes into that piece, to which Rabbie Burns wrote the words
Wha wad be a traitor knave?
Wha wad fill a coward's grave?
Wha sae base as be a slave?
Let him turn and flee.
Wha for Scotland's king and law
Freedom's sword would strongly draw?
Free man stand, or free man fa'!
Let us do, or die"

But we lost.

Love all the poems of Robert Burns, McTag and here's on that I like as well:

Two ‘Mericana Men
Beeg Irish cop dat walk hees beat
By den peanutta stan’,
First two, t’ree week w’en we are meet
Ees call me "Dagoman."
An’ w’en he see how mad I gat,
Wheech eesa pleass heem, too,
Wan day he say: "W’at’s matter dat,
Ain’t ‘Dago’ name for you?
Dat’s ‘Mericana name, you know,
For man from Eetaly;
Eet ees no harm for call you so,
Den why be mad weeth me?"
First time he talka deesa way
I am too mad for speak,
But nexta time I justa say:
"All righta Meester Meeck I"

O! my, I nevva hear bayfore
Sooch langwadge like he say;
An’ he don’t look at me no more
For mebbe two, t’ree day.
But pretta soon agen I see
Den beeg poleecaman
Dat com’ an’ growl an’ say to me;
"Halo, Eyetalian! Now, mebbe so you gon’ deny
Dat dat’sa name for you."
I smila back an’ mak’ reply:
"No, Irish, dat’sa true."
"Ha! Joe," be cry, "you theenk dat we
Should call you ‘Merican ?"
"Dat’s gooda ‘nough," I say, "for me,
Eef dat’s w’at you are, Dan."

So now all times we speaka so
Like gooda ‘Merican:
He say to me, "Good morna, Joe,"
I say, "Good morn, Dan."

@edgarblythe,
Great song by Paul, Mark. As I have said before, I remember happier times now.

I told Olivier5, that the glitter part might be Kismet.

I'll glitter and gleam so
Make somebody dream so that

Some day he may buy you a ring, ringa-linga
I've heard that's where it leads
Wearin' baubles, bangles, and beads.

Now, one for our edgar:

@Letty,
Yo, brothers and sisters!

This is Smoke, an Italian reggae band. Sounds bizarre, but that's the best, most musical reggae I've heard in years...

Smoke - Let there be light

@Olivier5,
Wow! I love reggae, Frenchman, but I have never heard Smoke, so once again, thanks for the introduction.

Just a bit of info on the next song, y'all. There really was an Eric, but like the boy king, he was born with deformities.

When I was a kid, Mother's Cookies began putting movie cards in the bags. It was Ann Blyth's card, plus the movie of Peabody and the Mermaid that made me like her and use her name as part of mine.

@edgarblythe,
I knew that about Anne, edgar. Here's funny cover of Ray Charles:

Oliver and Hardy were funny doing Let the Little Girl Dance.

Actually, when I was singing, I wore the red dress in my telling song. When I did Ray Charles' version, it was a black dress with glittering implants.

What a marvelous mix of music on our radio station, y'all.

edgar, Loved Willie and Ray doing Seven Spanish Angels.

Going to say good afternoon a bit early as I just got a dear friend who brought me flowers for an early Valentine's Day.

Two songs now:

@Letty,
I only know that record, Routes. It's a pretty good reggae album, as these things go, with lusher arrangements than most.

Just some French pop:

Quite a lot of discontent between France and Germany mentioned, WW1 really had deep roots.

Quote:
COLD WATER CURE AT BERLIN

Following up PRINCE BISMARK's idea that his recent attitude to France may be regarded as a sort of cold douche, the severity of which can be increased if necessary, the subjoined may be regarded as an accurate tariff of his possible prospective treatment of his patient, with its cold water equivalents:-

Giving them a bit more of his mind. - Half a turn more of the tap.

Demanding the prompt evacuation -Souse with a pailful.
of the Eastern frontier.

Total suppression of General BOULANGER - Cold shower-bath.
at 24 hours notice.

Demand for instant disarmament. - Plunge ditto.

Pulling the French Ambassador's - General douche, full force.
nose in the Unter den Linden,
with declaration of war.

Good morning, all, from our radio station here in Florida.

Oliver5, Loved all your French songs, but here is more reggae from a birthday man:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o1q_7m2nltQ

Pullman, odd, because I was trying to discover what made the zeppelin of WWI explode. Some say it was a hydrogen leak and I thought the cover itself that was contaminated.

edgar, here is one to match your song:
