@edgarblythe,
Had no idea that Ray did that one, Mark. It was a great one, my friend.

As you know, I didn't like Pat Boone for a long time, but I've changed my mind now.

Rivalry between newspapers, and politicians selectively leaking information to trusted journalists is nothing new. From Punch. (Verbatim, including use of capitals.)

Quote:
The only newspaper, as far as we are aware, that published the startling news of Lord RANDOLPH's resignation last Thursday morning was the Times. So for once not even the most Ultra-Liberal or Radical journal was in advance of the Times. The Pall Mall Gazette was so astonished that it thought the Jupiter must have been hoaxed, and was sent an Interviewer post haste to Lord RANDOLPH. But the ex-Chancellor was too wary a bird to be caught, and the P.M.G. Young man had to be content with interviewing Lord RANDOLPH's Secretary. Who gave the Times the private and confidential tip? Was it RANDOLPH himself? Anyhow the Times was not hoaxed though it was "taken in" everywhere and by everybody that morning.

This is what WIKI says about the affair.

Quote:
He (Randolph) was now the recognised Conservative champion in the Lower Chamber, and when the second Salisbury administration was formed after the general election of 1886 he became Chancellor of the Exchequer and Leader of the House of Commons.
His management of the House was on the whole successful, and was marked by tact, discretion and temper. But he had never really reconciled himself with some of his colleagues, and there was a good deal of friction in his relations with them, which ended with his sudden resignation on 20 December 1886. Various motives influenced him in taking this surprising step; but the only ostensible cause was that put forward in his letter to Lord Salisbury, which was read in the House of Commons on 27 January. In this document he stated that his resignation was the result of his inability, as Chancellor of the Exchequer, to concur in the demands made on the Treasury by the ministers at the head of the naval and military establishments.

@roger,
Ah, glad you liked it, donkey man. I do as well.

Here's another birthday guy, but first a tiny bit of info.

Recent film career

Since then, in great contrast to earlier stages of his acting career, Gooding has appeared in many more gritty, critically ignored, direct-to-DVD films than theatrical or television releases.

Sorry that this is a bit lengthy, y'all.

If so, my apologies. Sad face here.

Well, I was awakened early this morning by a chorus of frogs outside my window. Not one breath of wind here today.

Ah, I missed my Scottish friend's Rhapsody by John. I didn't see your face, McTag being it sad or smiling.

Ah, pushman, as usual, I love all of your contributions. Thanks you, England.Oops, I missed Farmerman doing that one by "the gentle giant."

A memory of times past.

First, Johnny:
