@edgarblythe,
welcome back to you as well, edgar/Mark. That was on funny video by Louis Prima.

Incidentally, this was the music behind that video.

These guys were inspired by the Four Freshmen.

@George,
Latin George, Loved that Delta song by Marc. I guess home is where the heart is, buddy.

Going to say good late afternoon with two songs. First another Delta Song with lyrics to follow.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ADWvmT6j38

When it's darkness on the delta
That's the time my heart is light
When it's darkness on the delta
Let me linger in the shelter of the night

Fields of cotton all around me
Dark folks singing sweet and low,
Lord, I'm lucky that you found me
Where the muddy Mississippi waters flow

Lounging on the levee
Listenin' to the nightingales way up above
Laughter on the levee
No one's heart is heavy

All God's children got someone to love
When it's darkness on the delta
Only heaven is in sight
When it's darkness on the delta
Let me linger in the shelter of the night

Now, Perry:

Good late morning here in our Florida radio station.

edgar, Thanks for your comment and personal acknowledgement. Love Wings doing Band on the Run. They were known as The British Invasion then.

Well, Izz with a y. I don't know the author, but I love that quote. Hurry back edgar and Izz.

Today is this guy's birthday, so here is a tribute to him:

@Olivier5,
Welcome back once again Mon Ami. Love that French song. Didn't know it, so thanks once again for the introduction.

Do folks still make resolutions on New Year's Eve?

Here's a great one by a fantastic performer.

I think most of us know that "the dove" is the sign of peace.

@edgarblythe,
edgar/Mark I'll have to check that one out.

Positively Fourth Street was one by "the jester" that I didn't know. It was fantastic and the best that I have ever heard him sing.

Well, y'all, we know that Elvis looked Down, but here is "the king" doing a song from a poem:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VSC8Zx8eh78

It's the best that I ever heard Elvis sing as well.

Well, going to say good afternoon with two songs.

When I looked out my front door I saw a bird on a wire. Guess who that reminded me of.

Leonard Cohen, of course. First some info on that song.

The inspiration for “Bird On The Wire” came from Cohen’s time in the ’60s living on the rustic Greek island of Hydra. When he first arrived there, the island didn’t even have electricity, but Cohen soon witnessed the construction of telephone poles in this idyllic place. So there actually were birds on the wire to fire up the songwriter’s imagination, just as there were “drunks in a midnight choir,” since the island was also known for bouts of late-night revelry.

now, the song:

and, of course, The Scotsman who started New Year's Eve.

I recall that Latin George and I resolved not to get into religion or politics.

Happy New Year.

A month or so back I was able to obtain a copy of vol 96 of Punch. This is a bound volume of a weekly magazine containing the year 1887. So here are some New Years' messages that are 128 years old.

Quote:
Wishes for the New Year

Mr Gladstone -That the SULTAN had given me that diamond cigar-case instead of Chamberlain.

Mr Chamberlain - That I may get the premiership.

Mr. Morley- I wish he may get it.

Here's another one in French. I believe the title translates to "One more
prank won't make a difference".

Yeah, Letty, I still avoid arguments about politics and religion on A2K.
It's easier now. Most such discussions here are rehashing. You could
go back over past threads and cut-and-paste almost everything from
then to now and it would look just the same.

This year my resolution is taken from another Massachusetts guy, Henry
David Thoreau. Simplify. I am going to unclutter myself.

Good late morning from a chilly radio station here in Florida.

Izz with a y Was that Punch about a Victorian woman all wrapped up in clothes telling here daughter:
Run along child and try to play.

Latin George, You remembered and that French song was great.

Speaking of remembering, I remember my friend Brucie (RIP) who introduced me to this guy, and his birthday is today.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hf94Tt2cO0A

and, y'all, the lyrics.

Brazil, when stars were entertaining June,
We stood beneath an amber moon
And softly murmured someday soon...
We kissed and clung together

Then - tomorrow was another day
The morning found ME miles away
With still a million things to say.
And now, when twilight dims the skies above
Recalling thrills of our love
There's one thing I'm certain of...
Return, I will, to old Brazil.

Brazil, when stars were entertaining June,
We stood beneath an amber moon
And softly murmured someday soon...
We kissed and clung together

Then - tomorrow was another day
The morning found ME miles away
With still a million things to say.
And now when twilight dims the skies above
Recalling thrills of our love there's one thing
I'm certain of... Return, I will, to old Brazil.

@Letty,
I'm not too sure what you mean. Punch as a magazine ran for a very long time. 1887 is volume 92, it only ended in 2002, and they have had a lot of cartoons, I'm not au fais with all of them. The cartoon you mention may well have been one.

@izzythepush,
Izz with a y, I tried to find that magazine, but every one that I tried to search out turned out to be advertising. Confused

Another birtday guy, y'all. Paul Revere. Here is the poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow set to music:
