What a sad tale. Quite poetic in the telling.

I thought of some good music for the thread yesterday, but I'm damned if I can remember it now. Andrew Preview is on our radio (BBC) this week, so here's one by him.

Good Thor's Day from our radio station in Florida.

edgar/Mark, Thanks for the comment on those two guys and Jerry Lee's version of that song was great.

Latin George, I Love Paris by ZaZ was great.

Izz with a y, both of you quotes were great.

McTag, welcome back. I truly love that great jazz man Andre.

Inspired by A&C, here's a funny one, y'all:

How about some smooth jazz for the afternoon here.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LbUuGPN5bBw

and, y'all, the lyrics:

.
This lovely day will lengthen into evening
We'll sigh goodbye to all we ever had
Alone where we have walked together
I'll remember April and be glad

I'll be content you loved me once in April
Your lips were warm and love and spring were new
I'm not afraid of autumn and her sorrow
For I'll remember April and you

The fire will dwindle into glowing ashes
For flames live such a little while
I won't forget but I won't be lonely
I'll remember April and smile

@edgarblythe,
Love that one by The Man in Black, edgar/Mark. He also did The Ballad of the Harp Weaver.

Going to say good late afternoon now with two songs First Perry Como.

I once observed that if I could compare a poet with a singer, it would be Robert Browning.

Now, The Bells of St. Mary:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QTvZdDQpK4g

and, the lyrics:

The Drifters:

The bells of St.Mary's
I hear they are calling
The young loves , the true loves
That come from the sea

And so my beloved
When red leaves are falling
The love bells shall ring out
, ring out for you and me

@edgarblythe,
edgar, Mark, I got my transcripts messed up. The two song worked, dear friend.

Love Early Morning Rain by "the jester" especially his self portrait.

Three songs for this rather chilly radio station in Florida.

First a delightful children's choir singing The Carol of the Bells.

Now, a tribute to "the little sparrow" whose birthday is today.

Now The Ninth Configuration.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JlI0thZ1ZHs

Stacy Keach is one of my favorite actors.

Boris Vian - La Java des Bombes Atomiques

Mon oncle, un fameux bricoleur --- My uncle, a famous handyman
Faisait en amateur --- Was an artisanal maker
Des bombes atomiques --- Of atomic bombs
Sans avoir jamais rien appris --- Despite having no training
C'était un vrai génie --- He was a true genius
Question travaux pratiques --- in matters practical
Il s'enfermait toute la journée --- He’d spend all day
Au fond de son atelier --- Locked up in his workshop
Pour faire des expériences --- Carrying out experiments
Et le soir il rentrait chez nous --- In the evening he’d return to our home
Et nous mettait en transe --- And would put us in a trance
En nous racontant tout --- By telling us about it

« Pour fabriquer une bombe A --- "Making an A-bomb
Mes enfants, croyez-moi --- My children, believe me,
C'est vraiment de la tarte --- Is a piece of cake.
La question du détonateur --- The issue of the detonator
Se résout en un quart d'heure --- Is resolved in a quarter hour
C'est de celles qu'on écarte --- You can leave it aside.
En ce qui concerne la bombe H --- As regards the H-bomb
C'est pas beaucoup plus vache --- Matters aren't much more complicated
Mais une chose me tourmente : --- However, one thing torments me.
C'est que celles de ma fabrication --- The bombs of my making
N'ont qu'un rayon d'action --- Only have a range
De trois mètres cinquante --- Of three and a half meters.
Y a quelque chose qui cloche là-dedans --- There’s something fishy in there,
J'y retourne immédiatement » --- I’ll get back to it right now."

Il a bossé pendant des jours --- He worked for days
Tâchant avec amour --- Trying, lovingly
D'améliorer le modèle --- To improve the model
Quand il déjeunait avec nous --- When he was having lunch with us
Il dévorait d'un coup --- He would devoured his soup
Sa soupe au vermicelle --- In a single gulp
On voyait à son air féroce --- We saw at his fierce expression
Qu'il tombait sur un os --- That he was stumbling on something
Mais on n'osait rien dire --- But we dared not say a thing
Et pis un soir pendant le repas --- And then one evening during dinner
Voilà tonton qui soupire --- There’s my uncle sighing
Et qui s'écrie comme ça : --- And bursting out:

« A mesure que je deviens vieux --- "As I grow older
Je m'en aperçois mieux --- I realize better
J'ai le cerveau qui flanche --- That my brain is faltering
Soyons sérieux disons le mot --- Seriously, let’s tell it like it is
C'est même plus un cerveau --- It’s not much of a brain
C'est comme de la sauce blanche --- It’s more like white sauce
Voilà des mois et des années --- See, for months and years
Que j'essaye d'augmenter --- I’ve been working to increase
La portée de ma bombe --- My bomb’s range
Et je n'me suis pas rendu compte --- And it did not occur to me
Que la seule chose qui compte --- That the only thing that mattered
C'est l'endroit où c'qu'elle tombe --- Was the place where it falls.
Y a quelque chose qui cloche là-dedans, --- There’s something fishy in there,
J'y retourne immédiatement » --- I’ll get back to it right now."

Sachant proche le résultat --- Given the bomb’s imminent completion
Tous les grands chefs d'Etat --- All the high heads of state
Lui ont rendu visite --- Paid him a visit.
Il les reçut et s'excusa --- He welcomed them and apologized
De ce que sa cagna --- For the size of his shack
Etait aussi petite --- Was so small
Mais sitôt qu'ils sont tous entrés --- But as soon as they all entered
Il les a enfermés --- He trapped them inside
En disant: « soyez sages ! » --- And told them to stay put.
Et, quand la bombe a explosé --- And when the bomb exploded
De tous ces personnages --- Of all these characters
Il n'en est rien resté --- There was nothing left

Tonton devant ce résultat --- Despite this result
Ne se dégonfla pas --- My uncle did not lose his cool
Et joua les andouilles --- He played the fool
Au tribunal on l'a traîné --- When drawn to the court
Et devant les jurés --- In front of the jury
Le voilà qui bafouille : --- He began to stammer:
« Messieurs c'est un hasard affreux --- "Gentlemen, this is a terrible accident
Mais je jure devant Dieu --- But I swear to God
Qu'en mon âme et conscience --- On my soul and conscience,
En détruisant tous ces tordus --- That by destroying all these crazies
Je suis bien convaincu --- I am totally convinced
D'avoir servi la France ! » --- That I've served France well!"

On était dans l'embarras --- They were confused
Alors on le condamna --- So they sentenced him
Et puis on l'amnistia --- And then they pardoned him
Et le pays reconnaissant --- And the grateful nation
L'élut immédiatement --- Immediately elected him
Chef du gouvernement --- Head of the government.

You send me searching, izz with a y.

All's Well That Ends Well is a play by William Shakespeare. It is traditionally believed to have been written between 1604 and 1605] and was originally published in the First Folio in 1623.

Though originally the play was classified as one of Shakespeare's comedies, the play is now considered by some critics to be one of his problem plays, so named because they cannot be neatly classified as tragedy or comedy.

Check out The Ninth Configuration.

Olivier5, you missed Edith Piaf. Love that one by Boris Van.

Another of Shakespeare's plays. edgar said that he remembered Micky Rooney as Tom Sawyer, but I only remember him as Puck in A Midsummers Night Dream.
