Most Influential Game Ever?

Its impossible to determine the best game ever, since there are so many different genres and styles of gaming and gamers. But maybe the most influential game can be spoken for. I personally believe that Goldeneye: 007 is the most influential game ever. Goldeneye revolutioned first-person shooters on consoles. Doom and Wolfenstein 3D were strong first-person shooters for previous systems, but Goldeneye brought forth the new face of first-person shooting, mostly with its multiplayer mode. It led the way for greater creations, such as Perfect Dark, Timesplitters, Medal of Honor, and others. All in all, it seems as though all first person shooters try to model themselves after the revolution that was Goldeneye. X-box users: Halo could quite possibly be the best first person shooter created to date for console, but you've gotta admit that Goldeneye is where the craze of first-person shooters all began.

I seriously disagree with Goldeneye even being somewhat influential. Wolfenstein and Doom are the grand daddy's of first person shooters. Goldeneye is barely even a dent in the world of first person shooters.

I would agree that Pac-Man would be extremely influntial.

Goldeneye, to the world of first-person shooters, is irreplaceable for how it modernized the first-person shooter. Doom and Wolfenstein were strong, but neither contained a multiplayer mode. The multiplayer experience is what set Goldeneye apart from just about every other game during its time. Goldeneye, much like Halo and the Final Fantasy Series, is one of those games that people bought systems for just for that game. EA and company are having a ridiculously hard time matching what Goldeneye did, although they've come close with the most recent Bond game "Everything or Nothing".

It may be a stretch for me to say Goldeneye is the most influential. Looking back on it, it is influential, but games such as Pac-Man and Mario were revolutionary in their own right. This may be just like the "best game ever" discussion. Impossible, because of genre.

I know you're talking about video games, but I would rate Rock'Em Sock'Em Robots as the most influential game ever. Hell, I learned how to fight through those guys.

It would probably be doom because it heralded the internet multiplayer age.

I'm kinda thinking Space Invaders. With your Atari you could play a genuine arcade at home.It even said Taito on the box

I know Pong was available in the home but with Space Invaders there was all that noise and color. Man it was the future and it was in my house
