Apparently Moore is getting under somebody's skin.

Casino ejects Ronstadt over 'Fahrenheit' praise

Tuesday, July 20, 2004 Posted: 12:19 AM EDT (0419 GMT)

LOS ANGELES, California (Reuters) -- Singer Linda Ronstadt was thrown out of the Aladdin casino in Las Vegas on the weekend after dedicating a song to liberal filmmaker Michael Moore and his movie "Fahrenheit 9/11," a casino spokeswoman said Monday.
Ronstadt, who had been hired for a one-show engagement Saturday night at the Las Vegas Strip casino, dedicated a performance of "Desperado" to Moore and his controversial documentary, which criticizes President Bush and the U.S.-led war in Iraq.
That dedication angered some Aladdin guests who spilled drinks, tore down posters and demanded their money back, said casino spokeswoman Sara Gorgon.

Linda stuck her neck out, got zapped and now she is in the press. Brilliant strategy.

Subtile group...tearing posters off the walls and flipping drinks. This should motivate people who believe in what "F911" has to say to the voting booths.

Private entities have that privelege to censor performers but isn't this typical of Sin City? The mecca for greed? What about censoring the responders, who were just as overtly political as what Ronstadt uttered?

Where I come from, if someone were to tip over drinks and destroyed property (the posters), they'd get arrested. Ah, well, even more free publicity for "F9/11." What do those asses believe they accomplished?

(And why does it remind me to Cheney showing up on the big screen at Yankee Stadium and getting loudly booed).

Look forward to other Republican PR appearances at New York City events during the convention in August.

Maybe some of the delegates will find time to see "F911" while they are in New York City (if it was not playing in their home towns). As comedian Judy Tanuda used to say "It could happen"...

From what I've heard, everyone who shows up on the big screen at Yankee Stadium gets booed Smile

Where's your emperical proof of that? "What I <heard>" on the Internet means almost nothing. Welcome to the site but the members here require at least three ligitimate sources to back up a statement like this. I really doubt that every celeb gets booed at Yankee Stadium. I realize this is media thing to publicize the one incident and I don't take it that seriously any more than the idea that everyone gets booed. The funny part is I don't think Cheney will show his face at Yankee Stadium again. Very Happy

As a New Yorker who has attended baseball games at Yankee Stadium, I can safely say the there is no tradition to boo non-baseball persons appearing on the big screen in the stadium. It does not mean on occasion the crowd may boo player(s) that have not performed well or an opposing team player.

It is very rare that the audience boo's a non-baseball person seated in the audience. If we put this in baseball terms, possibly the audience felt Cheney had not performed his job well so they booed him like they would any player who did not perform well.

Ronstadt: I'll continue praising Moore
'I'm saying, get information'

CNN--7/21/04

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Linda Ronstadt said she'll continue to praise Michael Moore and his film "Fahrenheit 9/11" on stage despite an angry reaction at a Las Vegas concert.

"This is an election year," she told the Los Angeles Times Tuesday. "I want people to get their head up out of their mashed potatoes and learn something about the issues and go and vote. ... I'm not telling them how to vote. I'm saying, get information about the issues."

When Ronstadt praised Moore and his documentary Saturday at the Aladdin hotel-casino, some in the audience stormed out of the theater and tore down concert posters.

The casino's president said he didn't allow the singer back in her luxury suite afterward and she was escorted off the property.

Ronstadt, 58, told the Times her remarks were "modest," adding: "They didn't throw me out."

"I didn't even know there was trouble," she said. "Those places operate like little city-states. They are all-powerful. And I had already said I never want to come back."

In Los Angeles, there were about 100 calls for refunds for Ronstadt's performance at the Universal Amphitheatre Tuesday night.

There are those around the forum who would also rationalize any bad news about DICK Cheney. Or the female anatomy part per Whoopie Goldberg. We can take a joke, however and don't worry, we won't send out the bad joke patrol to spank you although there are some of those around A2K too. Very Happy

Moore is also beginning to make some people sweat.

Fahrenheit 9/11' Making GOP Nervous
By MIKE GLOVER

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Republicans initially dismissed ``Fahrenheit 9/11'' as a cinematic screed that would play mostly to inveterate Bush bashers. Four weeks and $94 million later, the film is still pulling in moviegoers at 2,000 theaters around the country, making Republicans nervous as it settles into the American mainstream.

``I'm not sure if it moves voters,'' GOP consultant Scott Reed said, ``but if it moves 3 or 4 percent it's been a success.''

Two senior Republicans closely tied to the White House said the movie from director Michael Moore is seen as a political headache because it has reached beyond the Democratic base. Independents and GOP-leaning voters are likely to be found sitting beside those set to revel in its depiction of a clueless president with questionable ties to the oil industry.

MM offers to screen "F911" free at Aladdin Casino in Las Vegas

Michael Moore posted an open letter to Aladdin Casino President Bill Timmins on his Web site demanding he rehire Ms. Ronstadt and has offered to join her onstage to sing "America the Beautiful," after which he would screen his film at no charge for anyone in Las Vegas who wanted to see it.
