Can't recall name of film or who's in it. Takes place during WWII (possibly WWI). Upper class family in (I think) DC. Daughter doing volunteer work. Mother not happy about that or about daughter's military boyfriend. Mother trying to make sure son gets some cushy job in military office so he won't see combat. I believe mother has some coterie -- possibly a bridge club -- over which she holds sway. Son eventually a hero in battle. Perhaps dead. Can you help?

Is it black and white or color? Any idea of the decade it was released in? There are a ton of WWII films and anything you can recall will help.
