Norton and XP are not always compatible.

I gave up on them, and now use eTrust EZ Armor which gives AV protection and a very effective firewall.
Help me
P.S. Someone at A2K put me onto eTrust; I think it was Craven.

In fact, the incompatibility problem is well-known to Symantec, and as of a couple of months ago they reported that it was being worked on. I don't know the current status; you could check with Symantec.
Checking with Symantec isn't easy, you have to be very persistent, drilling down and down until you actually reach an email Contact Us level. However, to reward your persistence, they do answer helpfully. and quickly.
thank you Tomkitten i will look into it.since i posted my question i did run down the file string and i think i got the lil bugger.i will see when i reboot.
will go check out the leads you gave me and let you know how it pans out lol
