virus related problems

Reply Sat 29 May, 2004 05:16 am
I have had a virus in the past that I was able to get rid of by using Norton Antivirus. Approximately a year later it suddenly detected another virus. I feel was related to the first. Now the viruses are likely gone but the effects are still able to be seen in norton. I am prevented from using norton disk doctor and get the message "The operating system, or another process, currently has exclusive access to this drive, or some of its files." Some other problems that I find:
I have been using adaware, norton and others regularly. I am still having problems with internet explorer hanging up. Most recently when I try to delete my internet history using control panel/internet options/clear history the history files are still viewable in norton system works/web tools/advanced cleanup (2004 version). I mentioned the internet explorer hangup, I know that it hangs up because when I click on the begin quick clean button after running IE I get a message stating that I still have a window open (none visible even in ctl/alt/del applications window). I am not sure if I still have a bug in the system or permanent changes were made when I did have the virus (eliminated following directions from norton)(Backdoor.Rsbot).
The virus essentially opened my web service and generated internet explorer pages until my machine froze and opened my email associated with my web service and send a bunch of emails. fortunately I don't use that email service. I will post below hijack this log file if that will help. Thanks for reading all of this and your help in advance.

Norton Web Tools Clenanup says IE is open when it is not
I am experiencing the same problem. Does anybody has a remedial fix for this bug. I am using win98 SE with all critical patches installed, also have ad-aware, spybot, and does not detect any suspicious program.
