Talking on the phone

I hate talking on the phone. I hate talking in general but especially over the phone. No, I don't text that often either. Is this some sort of medical condition or something. I don't know it just annoys me. It usually ends up in weird silence for 5 minutes before they ask something. Any tips?

@DashDynamic,
I suspect it has more to do with being uncomfortable with/unable to make small talk.

I often have the same problem. I like to ask questions/interview people to show my interest in them, but feel uncomfortable when the tables are turned and it is my turn to talk about my interests. Fortunately, not many people do. They are more interested in talking about themselves.

Do you ask questions of others to keep the conversation going?

@Butrflynet,
No I don't. My mind goes blank. I usually say okay or give a polite nod. I never noticed this until recently and I am now wondering if I make others uncomfortable also or portraying as ungrateful for a phone call
