SOE newbie ?tions

I did as much reading as I could about the SOE MOD. I'm very new to PHPBB and all the coding but I have successfully entered in all the SOE code by hand with the exception of the signature removal for guests part (I need that). Anyhow, I have 2 questions for you if you have the time.

#1. In the SOE MOD I did use the removal of moderator name for guests and I also used the link in the readme.html file of the mod and found the link so that if a member is logged in they can see the moderator name. Well I can't get that to work. I still get no moderator names when logged on. Can you help me with the correct code please?

#2. I've insalled the mod_rewrite MOD again by hand. I'm a little unclear about where the .htaccess file goes. I created a simple .htaccess file and put it in the root of my forum (Edit (Moderator): Link Removed) is the the correct place to put it? and lastly the robots.txt file is at the same location that the .htaccess file is right?
