Rae, Piffka, Jes, Timber, Ehbeth,
Thank you dear friends.
As I said it helped to write and it has really helped to see such kind thoughts from fellow doggie lovers.
I would like another little dog in time, it must be my wife's decision as she is heartbroken and its too early to broach the subject.
We still have our memories and how full they are .
Bless you and our dear Nikkei
i posted this on the group hug thread, but i thought i'd share it here as well.
Way cool, ehbeth!
Ma said no about Maggie's visit, by the way. I won't give up though!
harrumphhhhh to Ma.
(and thanks to a whizbang genius at P45 for the combo above -i'd never have thought of combining those 2 emoticons)
Hiama -- Hugs to you & your wife. It is sad for us to hear about, but you two are having to live with the loss every day. I am sorry.
Rae's Ma!!! Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! What? Why not????
Beth -- You are the Emoticon Queen! Very cute!
Oh, but a hug for Maggie. And Hiama. We waited years after we lost our irish setter and I don't recommend it.
A new dog doesn't replace the old, you won't and she won't forget the old.
But new is new and needs a lot of care and love.
On delight, I noticed that kuvasz smile. Two things I can hardly stand, Pacco sneezes when he is about to leash grab to go out Yawns in pleasure. Groans in happiness when you touch his head. Oh, did I say two...
Piffka, I fully relate to your five minute going out routine.
By the way, hiama, welcome to able2know.
And is that a cup of nice hot tea?
what, a pac-man cult? and what does "sand-drawers and maintainers" mean, fortheloveofgod?
Very sorry to hear about your loss as well, hiama.
Kudos to timber for sheltering mutts. I hope to as well someday, when it's not an objectioable offense. One of our pups was likely abused, or at least sorely neglected, before we got him. Terrified of all new people at 12 weeks of age, took several days just to get him to pee outside because he kept wanting to run back in the house. He's just over two now, and he let three complete strangers touch him yesterday without so much as an odd look.
A red-letter day. (But the most playful, affectionate dog when he's feeling good, 'specially with that nasty frisbee in his mouth.)
Good Patio-Dog. Patpatpatpat.
I meant to comment on Timber's kennelable offense. Have been trying "Who wants to get kenneled?" with mine, but they just look at me and we all realize, there is no kennel.
I did know of some Bouviers who had been taught to "rush" the chickens off the porch with the command "Get the Chickens!" Eventually even the chickens learned it and would flee, sans dogs.
The snorting, the sneezing and the chuffing? Yes. Totally wonderful.
My husband and I like to rescue retired racing greyhounds. We always have one in our canine pack at our farm. When we got our first one back when greyhound rescue started, we drove all the way from Maryland to Connecticut to pick him up. We were amazed at how quickly he adapted and learned...he didn't know how to climb steps into the house and was not house broken at age 5. When we moved briefly to Chicago (6 yrs! BRRRR!), we would put a dog blanket on him that resembled a blanket you put on horses, and booties! These animals literally are all bone and sinew with some skin on them! He hated the coat and booties and actually appeared like he felt embarrassed! But it was 30 Degrees below Zero! He put up with us, old Franco did, and when he got osteogenic sarcoma at age 12.5, it broke our hearts. The other dogs appeared to be very depressed for days.
Bailey appears to be very embarrassed when we meet doggie 'friends' while he has a coat on. He's been known to start backing up to try to avoid the meeting.
I've had Cleo nearly a year now. The two years before that, she lived alone in the basement of a house. The owners of the house didn't like her. There were two other dogs and two cats in the house. She wasn't allowed to socialize with them, or the people. In talking to Setanta the other night, I realized that she's been alone for a total of 45 minutes since I got her. Bailey is always with her; I try to spend as much time with both of them as possible; when they visit Oma and Opa, Opa stays with them while Oma goes swimming or goes to physio. She has changed so much, and is worth every second of trouble I had in the first month. Gotta love the cinnamon teddy bear she's become. The 45 minutes she was alone was when Bailey went to the vet to get his shots (he went along for hers, but there were concerns about his). The first thing Bailey did when he got home was look for her. They'd become a pack.
Enjoying this thread very much. But, the Pet Psychic is coming on TV right now. So, will be right back (or tomorrow) after my favorite TV show.
Well, I'll just say I am so proud of humanity. Playing games with our dogs, leading them over cross country courses, jumping with them. Having psychics tell us how they feel? Incredibly wonderful.
My little black mare (Angel) loves the cats. Princess sits under her nose and she bends down, slowly, stays there honoring the cat's presence.
Tex-Star
In praise of our canine friends
It was two years ago when we took Bandit back to a condo we were renting while our house was being built. He had been hanging around our new neighborhood for some time, people would pick him up, hug him, maybe feed him a little but put him back down. We snuck him in/out of that condo for 4 months and he never made a peep.
Now, he finally is happy with just us, but still runs off occasionally to check out all those who loved him and to play with old doggy friends he got close to while "out there." You try to figure his former life. He must have been a traveling dog as he has only recently decided he can't sit on our dash. When we leave he will tolerate it only if the two cats are shut in the bedroom with him.
Well, he's just so darn cute, black & white with fawn on his face, those little brown spots above the eyes. Any time he passes there's the tiny little lick on the leg. So much energy, he runs alongside the horse when we go riding, looking up at her face, growling, so happy he can't stand it.
Thanks for all your good wishes on our recent loss of our darling Nikkei- the little old lady was nearly 16 and it was her time.
We will leave it a few months and then get a cat and dog as we had before, they learn to grow together and can be good playmates. We miss all the love around the place.
HUGS AND KISSES.
Hiama - wish i could send you my dog-friends for a few hours of hugging and kissing and snuggling and piling up in heaps of people and dogs. I know i'd be ok for a few hours, and i know they'd be happy to share their love with you.
Thanks ehbeth how you doing ?
Love and kisses
HIAMA
