UPDATE: okay, I've finished writing them all...read them, guess them, critique them. answers at the bottom but try not to cheat.
1. All who want it cannot take it.
For those who desire it, it is too late.
Its in the skin of one, and in the eyes of another.
Time often takes it, but not from the great Mother.
2. Give me time, and I will give you infinite friends;
but at your funeral, none shall attend.
3. The harder you look, the harder to find.
In the end 'tis found by the blind
4. I'm only frozen water.
5. Cannot be bought, cannot be sold.
Can only be found as one grows old.
Valued after, but not before;
a fool who finds it is no more.
6. Cheaper than flax but more valuable than gold;
a beggar's last wish, unless he gets it.

Immortality is nice, but not specific enough. I think I could name a few things which fit the riddle nicely.
Beauty is far too general...
What other things fit immortality?
and for beauty, were you thinking of anything besides other innate physical/mental traits?
Well, for example, your riddle for "Beauty" also fits "love" and "wisdom."
I'll think of some alternative answers for your immortality riddle and get back to you. I have to go right now, but I do want to say that I like the way you've started the riddle, it just isn't quite focused enough.
Update! I wrote the Wisdom riddle and I'm really pleased with it:
Wisdom -
cannot be bought, cannot be sold
can only be found as one grows old
valued after but not before,
a fool who finds it is no more.
Now I was thinking about ways to specify the Beauty one...I haven't been able to do so yet, but some concepts I was thinking could be helpful are:
- the skin deep concept
- in the eye of the beholder concept
EDIT: i disagree...i dont think the beauty riddle fits love or wisdom...it doesnt fit wisdom because wisdom cannot be given, and it can also be learned during a period when the person wants to learn...and it doesnt fit love because love can be given to someoen who wants it.

How long did it take to "write" stuh505?

Stuh, if you wrote this kid you're good.
Adrian,
it took me about an hour, my mother and i discussed it, throwing ideas back and forth. i hope (by the quotation marks around write) that you aren't insinuating that i stole it!
Thanks kev, that means a lot!
this is my first attempt at writing riddles...but ive written a lot of poetry. im kind of going for that classic Tolkienesh, "all that is gold does not glitter // chest without hinges, key or lid" style
Ok, I had some new ideas this morning:
Beauty - in the eye of one, and the skin of another...i want to work this in with what i alreayd have and make it not seem tacked on to the end
Love - the harder you look, the harder to find
in the end it is found by the blind
Okay, I am happy with all of them....
what do you think?
