I had to have W98se re installed due to a real bitch of a problem and I have just downloaded googles toolbar because it has the most effective pop up stopper I've ever seen, in 6 months I havent had one pop up, problem is, this time it isn't working. Any advice would be appreciated.

What do you mean by "this time it isn't working"?

Pretend we are mechanics and you are calling us for advice (and we can't check the car ourselves). How would we answer "this time the car's not working"?

My guesses:

1) Some new ways to launch popups are getting through.

2) You have something on your computer launching them.

I could go on, there are many other possibilities but if you give more information then people can give more informed answers.

At the time I posted this Craven I hadn't noticed but when I go to options the words "pop up stopper" are "greyed out" I.E. I suppose means not available. Can you make sense of that?

It sounds odd, I don't know what can have caused the toolbar to do that.

You don't have other popup blocking software do you?

I'd uninstall and reinstall the toolbar and see what happens.

If uninstalling & reinstalling doesn't solve the problem, upgrading Internet Explorer likely will. Probably the popup-blocker requires a more recent version of IE than the rest of the toolbar (e.g., & this is a guess, IE 5.5 or higher).

I guess it was a pretty good guess, Phoenix.
Panzade, your post is very vague. The Google toolbar is certainly available for Win98. According to the info Phoe posted above, you need IE 5.0 or later to install it (& 5.5 for the pop-up blocker). Also, the official Google toolbar is only available for IE, not other web browsers.

Go to start>windows update. Follow directions for updates to scan your computer. It will generate a list of updates that you can choose to download.

I don't know about you, but when I first got my Windows 98 disc, on my old computer, it came with IE4. As updates were created, I downloaded them.

our google toolbar (v2.0114.9) has been stuck on 4501 blocked for a few weeks now.

short of unin/reinstalling, is there anything else that can be done to jumpstart the counter?
(we use IE v6.0 running on XP home addition SP2, if that helps...)
thanx

Do you have another popup blocker running (such as the one built into IE6 SP2) which could be stopping popups before Google gets to them?
Btw, Google released a beta of v3 of their toolbar.
