I have weeks and weeks of old Restore Points on my PC (Windows XP Home OS), and would like to get rid of them since as I understand it, they take up hunks of memory. How can I do this?
Good question TK I will be listening along with you as I have the same problem.
BTW good to see you again.
getting rid of old restore points
Thanks, Joanne; it's good to be back!
In your System Restore settings you can specify the total amount of space system restore will use. If you choose a lower amount it will simply have fewer available restore points as it automatically deletes them to stay under the limit.
If, however, you want to manually delete them all (I don't know any easy way to delete just a few points) you can turn it off and then turn it on. Turning it off deletes all the restore points.
Lowering the size limit will get rid of some older ones but picking and choosing isn't an option.
Thank you CDK I might be able to manage a simple task like that. I guess I should get the book re Window's XP. When I got this new out fit it was refurbished/used. And there are many things I do not understand as it came already loaded.
Getting rid
Good luck, JoanneDorel - I have 3 XP manuals, and none of them says a word about getting rid of Restore Points, only how to set them.
Ha ha, that is good news now I will not buy one more excuse to ask instead of read weird technical stuff.
