A pity when people don't know their own religion.
Yes. George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and anyone else who participated in the American Revolution did so against the Bible. Many Christians at the time did not support the Revolution for this very reason.
The Bible wrote:
Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Rom 13: 1ff
... and ...
13Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every authority instituted among men: whether to the king, as the supreme authority, 14or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right.
1 Peter 2:13-15
look Mel - more problems for Bush. It's not that simple as you would assume....
Bitter after being snubbed for membership in the "Axis of Evil," Libya, China, and Syria today announced they had formed the "Axis of Just as Evil," which they said would be way eviler than that stupid Iran-Iraq-North Korea axis President Bush warned of his State of the Union address.
Axis of Evil members, however, immediately dismissed the new axis as having, for starters, a really dumb name. "Right. They are Just as Evil... in their dreams!" declared North Korean leader Kim Jong-il. "Everybody knows we're the best evils... best at being evil... we're the best."
Diplomats from Syria denied they were jealous over being excluded, although they conceded they did ask if they could join the Axis of Evil.
"They told us it was full," said Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
"An Axis can't have more than three countries," explained Iraqi President Saddam Hussein. "This is not my rule, it's tradition. In World War II you had Germany, Italy, and Japan in the evil Axis. So you can only have three. And a secret handshake. Ours is wicked cool."
THE AXIS PANDEMIC
International reaction to Bush's Axis of Evil declaration was swift, as within minutes, France surrendered.
Elsewhere, peer-conscious nations rushed to gain triumvirate status in what became a game of geopolitical chairs. Cuba, Sudan, and Serbia said they had formed the Axis of Somewhat Evil, forcing Somalia to join with Uganda and Myanmar in the Axis of Occasionally Evil, while Bulgaria, Indonesia and Russia established the Axis of Not So Much Evil Really As Just Generally Disagreeable.
With the criteria suddenly expanded and all the desirable clubs filling up, Sierra Leone, El Salvador, and Rwanda applied to be called the Axis of Countries That Aren't the Worst But Certainly Won't Be Asked to Host the Olympics; Canada, Mexico, and Australia formed the Axis of Nations That Are Actually Quite Nice But Secretly Have Nasty Thoughts About America, while Spain, Scotland, and New Zealand established the Axis of Countries That Sometimes Ask Sheep to Wear Lipstick.
"That's not a threat, really, just something we like to do," said Scottish Executive First Minister Jack McConnell.
While wondering if the other nations of the world weren't perhaps making fun of him, a cautious Bush granted approval for most axes, although he rejected the establishment of the Axis of Countries Whose Names End in "Guay," accusing one of its members of filing a false application. Officials from Paraguay, Uruguay, and Chadguay denied the charges.
Israel, meanwhile, insisted it didn't want to join any Axis, but privately, world leaders said that's only because no one asked them.

But I LOVE South Park
I didn't bother reading the thread, but I love 'Dogma', it's the same title in English, and South Park makes me bust a gut.

In the new testament, there are parts which are obviously applicable to Roman times and parts which are clearly inspired and applicable to all ages, including much of what you read in the sermon on the mount.
In my estimation, you mock Christianity by trying to claim thatthe former should be obeyed literally in all ages.

You can laugh all you want at W's notion of an "axis of evil", but there are a lot of people who are not laughing these days, and that includes Saddam Hussein, Muommar Khadaffi, the "beloved leader" of North Korea, all of the idiots who just blew themselves up in that train in North Korea, all the clowns who bought it at ToraBora, and all of the scum and vermin who formed up the "fedayeen saddam", the Hussein family personal samurai which is in the final stages of being liquidated, and somehow or other, I don't think the children who were rescued from the baathist kiddie prisons are laughing at George W. Bush right now either. I suspect they're still celebrating.
despite our huge disagreements in many areas and despite some of my opinions about you, I would be glad if some of those claims in your post above are true.
Unfortunately they're not. Except for Iraq where nobody is laughing, many others are pretty cousy. Especially North Korean "beloved leader"
and why do you always have to have at least one bigoted remark? "those idiots who just blew themselves" - it was not train transporting members of terrorist group, huge number of civilians died there. If you think that all nations are alike their leaders then who exactly was USA liberating in Iraq?? Millions of Saddams?

Gee if you have to decide which parts of Christianity apply to you, it doesn't make religion very relevent, does it. You can just cut out all the parts you don't want to do since they don't "apply" to you.
Your estimation is wrong, I am not mocking Christianity. I have a profound respect for Christianity and the people who are really try to follow its message -- how ever challenging -- which asks people to love their enemies. The is what it means to "not be a part of the world".
I am mocking your attmpt to use the label "Christian" while you hold on to values that are opposite to what Jesus taught and how he lived.

The people who are really laughing (unfortunately) include...
Osama, who continues to thumb his nose at America and is thrilled that we are spending so much time and energy in Iraq instead of looking for him. He is also very glad that we are making it so easy for him to recruit new terrorists. Bush couldn't possible provide better PR for Osama than he has in Iraq.
and
Kim Jong Il, the leader of North Korea who can now going forward with his Nuclear program with the confidence that the US is in no position to enter another war. As an added benefit we are now removing GI's from the DMZ in Korea to fight in Iraq.
and
Iran, which is able to enjoy a major distraction while it waits for a Shiite majority to exert real pressure in Iraq.
These folks are the real winners of the war in Iraq.

Like I say, in my estimation, you're not mocking me; you're mocking George Washington, Ben Franklyn, Thomas Payne, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and Franklyn Roosevelt.
I'm glad it makes sense to YOU...
what? they're terrorists for allegedly planning to have same weapons USA already has? I believe there are some other things that make you terrorist...either that or USA is leader of "axis of evil".
as for civilians....
At least 54 people were confirmed dead and more than 1,249 injured in an explosion that damaged more than 8,000 homes around a train station in North Korea, the Red Cross told Reuters today.

Surely you don't think that all of them were syrian tehnicians?

Their families have nobody to blame other than the "beloved leader" and the terrorists on the train who were doing the "beloved leaders" business.
Aside from the USAF, people who want to **** around with weapons of mass destruction have the law of averages and all of Murphy's laws to contend with as well.
Lots has happened since I was here...
ebrown-- I think we're talking past one another.
Ahmed's sentiment was nice. A few people pointed out that the peaceful picture Ahmed painted was not a universal reality within Islam. Just as all Christians aren't Christlike.
It wasn't intended as an insult against Ahmed. It has happened to well-meaning Christians within these threads many times.
He was given the same deference as anyone else of any other religion. I think that's fair.
No bad on Ahmad. No bad on Islam. No bad on you. You seemed to take the 'conflict' as an assault on Islam. It is no more pristine than any other religion, and just as we can find violence in the Bible, it can be found in Islamic writings, as well. There's just not a perfectly peaceful religion, or one above debate, IMO.

That's true, but I don't see what does it have with you calling them idiots.

Very well said sofia. This post seems a decent conclusion.

You seem to specialize in phony accusations. It should be patently obvious that I was referring to the terrorists on the train as idiots, and not innocent bystanders.
You originally claimed there were no terrorists on the train and then, after I posted a news article which quite clearly showed that there were, you claimed that they were merely legitimate soldiers trying to develop the same level of weaponry as the US possesses.
In other words, I don't see much likelihood of any sort of an honest debate involving you as a participant.
read more carefully - I said that someone allegedly or really having WMD weapons is not what makes someone terrorist. Because in that case USA is main terroristic country in the world. You even responded to that - so I don't know if you forgot your own response or you think that when you say your opinion everybody else by default agrees?
There's my good old "Bush-has-some-nazi-features" MyOwnUsername again (or still there?)
