Deep green lawns bloom
pushing blades towards the sky
a sprinkler sputters
delicately watering
the grass, in their brand new coats

I think it might be fun, while piquant for some of us who knew Cavfancier and tear a bit still to see his posts, to re-invigorate his tanka thread.

I was a troublesome poster myself in the first several pages as I simply did not get it, the 5-7-5-7-7 pattern. Dumkopf! Well, hey, I was enthusiastic.

And some of us riffed on the pattern at some point, on purpose.

I remember we wrote some interesting tankas, or at least I thought so at the time.

Anyone want to play with this? Go back and look at Cav's first post, on page 1.

5-7-5-7-7

We all miss our friend.
Cavfancier has gone to
A better place, we
Hope and trust. Now we create
Bad poetry in his name!

Cav said, "Dagnabbit....I've got it. New posters can start with any line or fragment of a 7-syllable line from the previous poster, but must make a new poem within the 5-7-5-7-7 structure."

(We veered from that later, and probably didn't always get to the 31 syllables that are needed for a 'tanka' - I'll try to follow this idea though.)

Trust now we create
anew from past days' sad words.
Words will swirl and build
new structures to climb up on
new thoughts to conjure new love.

Structures to climb up,
Mountains to scale, hardships to
Deal with. But also
Flowery meadows, rivers,
And our friends' kind loving words

Friends' kind loving words
Emotional thoughts imbue
While we just visit
During the cool of a day
Letting our cares slip away

(how we do so MISS you Cav--- tho'ts from here to there)

I've had some wine and cannot handle a tanka now. Back on the morrow...

I can do it all
If I have the proper tools
Give me a new hope
To go with the old body
And I'll make you a mem'ry

Have the proper tools
for the jobs and you will find
less trouble doing
tasks at hand, usually.
Sometimes tools don't help at all.

Tools don't help at all
When you don't have the knowhow,
Or when the job is
Too heavy for a woman.
At least they've fixed my roof now.

57577 (I post this to remember from one post to the next)

They've fixed my roof - now
that the cows have come home to
Gloccamorra and
settled in their spots on the green
meadow, and moo more.
