Napoleonic wars

(Col Man, the first two books in the series were Cut to the Quick and A Broken Vessel. Sadly, Kate Ross died after finishing The Devil in Music, so that's where the series ended. )

Redingote

http://locutus.ucr.edu/~cathy/images/i-wein/wein2.gif

This redingote is heavily trimmed in the military style mimicking the epaulets and the Hungarian passementerie from the uniforms of the dashing hussars . The wrists are trimmed with fur and eight levels of button, cord, and fringe trim. The lady carries a piece of sheet music in her right hand. Her bonnet features and rose and assorted flowers on it.

Tattersall's
A popular horse market in London, founded by Richard Tattersall (died 1795). The name survives as the name for a pattern of dark lines forming squares against a (usually) light background, the pattern used on horses there.

Uppark House in West Sussex, owned during the Regency by Sir Harry Fetherstonhaugh (pronounced Fanshaw). Sir Harry entertained lavishly and his close friend the Prince Regent was a frequent guest at the house between 1785 - 1810.

In the Red Drawing-room there is a Carlton House writing-table given to Sir Harry by the Prince Regent. In around 1813 Sir Harry withdrew from society and in 1825 he married his dairymaid, Mary Ann Bullock.

zoological society of london founded in 1826, I'm not sure if this counts strictly speaking because of the date, but the period 1788-1830 is known as the "extended Regency period"
