Intel has tended to be better, IMO. But AMD usually has better prices and have also recently been doin' some cutting edge stuff.

What are the specs of what you are considering?

AMD is ahead of intel with the 64bit proccer i want one but they are to expensive and i think they dont think there is much software that runs on 64 bit proccers i am not sure but they would be hell fast

AMD is, and probably always will be a better value then Intel, and value doesn't mean lousy performance either. AMD CPU's are damn fast but in the end P4's are faster. The latest & greatest CPUs from AMD do tend to beat P4's in gaming benchmarks, however.
I voted AMD.

AMD is cheaper, but not all applications work well with them. Some CAD programs and such need the Intel chips.

For just a basic home computer though, AMD is a great choice.

Intel.
Purely and solely for compatability issues.

AMD make better processors that are cheaper and faster. They are not 100% compatable or 100% stable though.
