looking for a movie title?

I was hoping some one can help me find the movie title, of an old movie i think in the 80's, about a woman gets taken into a van and held hostage by a weirdo guy, and he promises he will let her out after one year i think, if she doesn't love him by then, she waits and counts on the calender as the year passes, while he tortures her, she befriends him and lures him to friendship, as on the last day, where he is suppose to let her free, he proposes to her and she declines gently his offer to marry him. He goes crazy and starts hurting her. she dies of Pneumonia trying to escape him, in the rain.
