I don't see stepping on bugs as a gateway to do bad things to higher forms of life.
Sure, I'll flatten an anthill and enjoy every second of the chaos and panic that ensues from planting a giant foot on their home..but that's about the limit to any sadistic tendency. Just because I think it's funny to watch ants scramble like all hell to avoid being crushed doesn't mean I think it'd be funny to watch something like a frog or bird avoid the same.
