I installed an illegal copy (Unknowingly) of XP Pro and want to uninstall back to my Win 2000. How?
reformat you hard drive and reinstall Windows
That's what I'd do. But you may be able to "downgrade" the install.
Personally, whenever I'm installing an OS I think it's worth it to reformat but it should be possible to just install 2000 without doing so if you want.
Yes, You should be able to just boot from the Windows 2000 CD and then do the install over XP, however I do agree with the others, a reformat would be the best way to go first. Just make sure you back up all vital information first. And realize that in the formatting process ALL data that is on your machine now, meaning personal programs, files, pictures, etc....will be erased. Like I said just boot from the CD and do everything from there. If you need any other help just post it. Hope that helps.
Reply to how do I uninstall XP back to win 2000
Thanks for the hints, I knew I could format & reinstall, but thats a 4 to 6 hour job i'm trying to avoid. When I insert the Win 2000 disk in the drive I get a message that a newer system is installed and the .exe is disabled. I'll try the boot up idea but not too confident. I'll let you know.
Thanks
I wouldn't just pop the win 2000 disc in. I tryed something similier not too long ago and it turned out to be a big mess. Operating systems are meant to upgrade, not down grade. I would reformat, it may take more time, but it would prolly be worth it in the end!!!
