Suddenly my internal card does not work on my Sony PCG-R505ECP. The internal NIC works fine. However, this malfunction also causes my laptop to boot VERY slowly. Other than that the laptop still works fine. I have had a local computer shop run a diagnostics test on the hardware and can find nothing wrong. Any tips short of sending it back to Sony?
This sounds more like a software problem that a hardware malfunction.
I'd do a thorough check of your drivers first. Uninstall the ones for the wireless network card and then reinstall them after a restart.
It is a software issue. I have removed drivers, Sony gave me a recommended driver to download and that was not accepted by the system...I'm waiting on another reply from Sony. I tried installing their recommended driver, OR-901890802B104US.EXE, while in safe mode and got an error message that this is an incorrect driver for my Orinoco wireless card. I can't figure it out.
When you say it wasn't accepted do you mean that the XP thing came up saying it's not digitally signed ?
If so, ignore it and install it anyway.
